The last four days have been one long wonderfully decadent pastciche of snuggles, sleep, food, and anime, primarily Death Note
Last Thursday night I flew down to Christchurch for four days as planned. Despite the painful bug the female MClennan's picked up in Fiji and a nasty flu,
seraphs_folly was bright and cheerful, and just itching to tell me about the "secret project" she'd been teasing me about. Unsurprising really, as I soon found out.
My love presented me with a ring. It is pictured here in the box it was presented in :
I have tried to photograph it but the shininess of the gold defeats me, even without flash. The second image, is without flash but I coudn't keep it stable enough for the long exposure required. The relief on the fascia is of a collared wolf's head, regardant. It is reported to be of English vintage and possibly 400 hundred years old.
seraphs_folly not only had to find this item, but had to find a jeweller willing to work on restoring and resizing this antique ring for my short and stubby fingers. The nearest image I have so far been able to find on-line is this one from
Corsham Court in North Wiltshire:
As I posted earlier, I was rather giggly and giddy at being presented with such a token of love and trust and ownership. However I should point out, in case I gave anyone the wrong impression, that this is not an engagement ring, though it does symbolize some similar emotions and commitments. It does celebrate our relationship, and well, I suppose I should really let Sally tell people what it means to her. To me it means I am loved and owned and treasured and it makes me very happy.
This weekend has also resulted in
seraphs_folly's creation of The Snuggle Love Song. This might actually be considered a banned weapon under the Geneva convention due to it's intolerable cuteness, but, in the interests of ensuring weapons tech parity, I will pass it on regardless of the possible consequences. The Snuggle Love Song consists entirely of the lines:snuggle snuggle
love love
repeated incessantly, but is best performed complete with actions that include trying to bury oneself into the armpit of one's lover in a wriggly fashion. As you can see, The World May Not Be Ready for such cute.
Food was lots of Drexel's specials and evenings at Tatsumi, which has to be the most reasonably priced Japanese restaurant I've eaten at (other than the Lung Tao in McLeod Gange of course) . The food is lovely, better than Kazu, the fried stuff is less fatty and seems more healthy. I especially liked the tempura soft-shelled crab. The staff are very cute.
In the realms of anime, I introduced my lady to the Cowboy Bebop movie, and I think she appreciated it. I can always watch it again, and I always see new things in it.
As to Death Note which we watched in a marathon this weekend from episode seven to the end, well what can I say? Possibly the best compliment I can give it is that I cannot, at present, fault it in any way, except that i didn't like the second theme song much. The artwork and animation, the use of colour, the ability of the writers to ramp up the tension and the stakes, the cute characters... well, basically I loved it. Maybe I'll write more about it later, but I should go to bed soon.
Haku came and saw me off at the airport. He is an amazing cat. Purring and smooching and looking at the lights and meowing at passing cars.
I only just managed to get back to Wellington this evening. I'm informed all the Air New Zealand flights got cancelled, bot this time I had flown with Pacific Blue. The cabin crew certainly seemed a lot more fun than the last ANZ lot. Heard over the PA shortly before a rather bumpy landing in Wellington : "Attendants prepare cabin for landing, start the dishwasher, and put out the cat, please"
I also ran into
Sally's artist and his mother at the airport, he was heading back on the same flight having spent the entire weekend playing pool instead of snowboarding due to the weather.
Overall the weekend was restful and wonderful and it's now very hard to be apart.
