This morning there were almost-pubescent girls in pyjamas at the local bus-stop. I suppose the school must be having some sort of pyjama-party. Some girls were clever and wore dressing gowns or thick flannelette pyjamas. Others wore remarkably thin shorty styles, which given that there was almost ice on the car windscreen this morning, meant that nipples were doing what nipples do. Also thin cotton shorts mould to the folds and curves of the body far too closely for decorum. I pity any male teachers that have to teach that lot today!

On the train my Telecom friend became all excited when he found the article in the Upper Hutt Leader about a certain close friend of mine and her new book. He was excited because a) he recognized her from last weeks train ride, and b) it had my name in the article. It was also wrong. So I get to issue a correction to the press for the first time as part of a media article :Contrary to the reports in the Upper Hutt Leader, the author Sally MacLennan and I are not currently planning to purchase a house in the Upper Hutt area together.
Walking to work, I noticed that Lambton Quay had ground to a standstill. This had prompted one bus driver to get out of his bus and have a smoke on the footpath. On actually getting to work and logging in, I discovered in my email a police alert reporting on a gas main leak in Lambton Quay that was responsible for the traffic disruption. 'Nuff said?

I also discovered that work has blocked GChat. I think that means I'm really going to have to stop going into work. I wonder how long I can get away with that before they start complaining they haven't seen me and am I really doing any work? Not that I do any anyway.
[Edit: Seems it may have been only a temporary outage, G-Chat has just connected again.]

Last night I was luckily outbid on a pile of GW stuff. Luckily because I don't need any more and I should in fact be getting rid of much that I already have, and also luckily because I couldn't afford it anyway. Must get off of living on credit.

Today Ele graduates from her nursing course (at least I think that's what it is) , and Joel leaves on a trip that will take him to Guantanamo Baythe United States. Perhaps he'll be there just in time to prevent the Olympic Torch Relay from continuing?

Speaking of which I was surprised to learn last night that a group of primarily USA athletes calling themselves "Team Darfur" are actively planning to raise the issue of China selling arms to African gunmen while in Beijing if they ever get near a microphone, breaking IOC rules in the process. I think it's a little hypocritical for USA athletes to be criticizing China for something that their own government has done far more of, but it is good that more than just Tibet is being raised. There was at least one thoughtful silent protest idea on the site which I pass on to any USAians planing to attend :
My suggestion is that athletes [and spectators alike] attending the summer games in Beijing wear a representation of the Statue of Liberty.

The Statue of Liberty was the inspiration for the "Goddess of Liberty" erected by protestors in Tiananment Square. The symbolism will not be lost on either Chinese officials or the Chinese people yearning for improvement in the tyrannical behavior of their government. That being said, China would be hard pressed to challenge Americans wearing a symbol that is closely identified with our national identity.

But regardless, tonight there will be beer and curry. Then it will be Friday. Then it will be a weekend with a cocktail party in it. Life goes on.
