Every day since Maddie had come to work with Jeremy Briggs, there'd been tests. They'd test the cohesion of her molecules, take samples, do a bunch of other stuff that she didn't really want to ask about because she didn't like being poked and prodded to begin with, and that had been her life for the last month. In addition to doing actual work stuff. It was like she was part administrative assistant, part guinea pig, and getting paid six figures for it. All in all, there were worse deals.
Today was different, though, because today had started with a pill.
She wasn't sure how long it would take, but once she took it, Maddie looked between Jeremy and Jocasta, ignoring the girls serving as lab assistants, and asked, "How do I know if it worked? Can it even work that fast?"
Jeremy just shrugged. "No better way than to test it out."
It was stupid to feel nervous about this, Maddie decided, but she was going to be nervous anyway. But she took a deep breath, and tried to change into gas form... and couldn't.
"It worked!" Maddie said, eyes going wide. "It really... Are you sure it's going to stick? Am I really cured?"
"Of course it's going to stick. I came up with it," Jeremy said.
And even though he as an ass and Maddie sort of hated him, her only response was to glomp him anyway. "Woah, watch the hair," he told her, awkwardly patting her on the back once like he was hoping that would make her stop. Which it did. "This might be a good time to start putting in calls to your little friends."
If this was real, if she was really cured, with no more worries about her powers killing her, or her not having a body in ten years, then it had to work on Hazmat and Mettle, and they didn't have to potentially rely on Osborn for help ever, and they could all go on to have actual normal lives... "That would be amazing," Maddie said, grinning from ear to ear.
