Maddie was being all thoughtful when she didn't really want to be thoughtful. She'd had an... interesting week, sure, but she'd been able to feel sort of normal, settling in to a new school and meeting new people and getting to feel lazy because she wasn't training. Then class today happened, and she had to think about things like killing people

Tony's room was not on the 2nd floor, but that wasn't stopping him from wandering the hallways in search of food to scavenge. Look, he was a starving teenager. And was not allowed near an oven in a cooking capacity.

Having found no food, he took the moment to mourn for his caloric intake and meet one of the new people. "Hey."

Maddie looked up, offering him a little smile. "Hi," she said. "Were you looking for somebody?"

"Not unless your roommate is a delicious pizza." HE HELD OUT HOPE.

"Not last I checked, but give it a day and she might turn into one." Someone had already learned to just roll with this place.

It was really the only way to survive.

Tony snickered at at, nodding in agreement. "Okay, are you actually new or have I just been that bad at socializing?"

"New," she said, though she had no opinion on his socializing skills one way or another. "I'm Maddie."

"Tony, good to meet you."

She paused, tilted her head a little, and had to ask, "Tony what?"

Because she'd been warned.

"Stark," he replied dryly. "You know me?"

[mummyspromdate]

"Yeaaah," she said, peering at him like she couldn't really believe she was looking at tiny Tony Stark, but she couldn't really believe she was looking at tiny Tony Stark. "You must get a lot of that."

He was not tiny.

Okay, he kind of was. But he was totally due one last growth spurt here!

"No. Never." Sarcasm was also not something he used. Really.

"People sort of warned me you were here, so. I think maybe you break a lot of brains," she said, totally helpfully.

"It sort of breaks my brain that everyone knows me as an old person with weird facial hair too." Excuse you, Tony. That goatee was amazing.

"You're not old," Maddie tried, even though she probably would have gone with 'old' too. "You're... mature."

[hoorayimrich]

"Old," Tony countered. "Mr. Roger's age at least."

A beat.

"His physical age, not the chronological one."

[mummyspromdate]

"Okay, a little old, but it works for you," Maddie said.

She thought maybe she should have left off that first part.
