Supernatural Score Soundtrack review-ish thing.

Can I just say that I am completely in love with the Supernatural composers right now?  Lennertz and Gruska, please marry me.  We can make beautiful music together.

I downloaded the soundtrack from iTunes earlier today, and (after officially making Dean's Dirty Organ my new ringtone) have not stopped listening to this music.  It's beautiful and creepy and melodic.  And I'm usually not a big fan of scores (the composer for Lost still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, even though his character themes are amazing), but I'm officially suggesting this to anyone and everyone.

I'm totally gonna geek over these songs now, if you don't mind.

And So It Begins... - I've loved this one since I downloaded that once-available season one score from somewhere on the net.  This is the one that's been on my iPod and freaking me out for a couple of years now.  It's probably the creepiest track of the whole bunch.

Luci'fer, You Got Some 'Splainin' To Do! - I'll be honest.  I'm not entirely sure which episode this is from.  But I'm willing to make a sacrifice and watch all of Mark's episodes again to find it.  Based on the title, though, I'd say it's probably 5.19. And we get bonus "dishwasher door closing on bottom rack full of metal pots and pans" at the end, which is always a plus :)  Holy shit, there is no continuity in Mark's face in this show - even within the same episode.  *Sings* The herpes is alive with the sound of murder!  *crickets*

Isn't It Bromantic? - There's some painfully sad and moving music on this disc download.  This is one of those songs that takes you back to the beginning and helps to remind you why you love this show.  It's sad and painful, but beautiful at the same time.  There's cautious hope in every note.  I think I'm in love with Christopher Lennertz.

Demon Agitato, Mr. Ostinato - Another one that I'm questioning the origin of.  But, you know what?  It's so interesting and unnerving that I kinda don't care.  I should definitely work out while listening to this one on a loop.  If ever there was a "look out! there's a serial killer running up behind you!" song, this would be it.

Dean's Dirty Organ - Not gonna lie.  This is the reason I downloaded the score.  This song.  I think I first consciously noticed it in 3.03 and have been in love with it ever since.  It just conjures up images of the boys giving each other "WTF?" looks, and those are always fun.  In fact, i love this song so much that, as I mentioned earlier, the first thing I did upon download was make that epic guitar riff my new ringtone.

Americana - This song bugged me for a while.  It's so familiar, I knew I'd heard it a lot, but couldn't remember where.  Then I started tearing up.  Then I realized I'd heard it so many times because I put Chuck's monologue on my Season Five Fanmix.  It's the background score for that.  Another one that's sad and hopeful in its simplicity, and all the better for it.

The Grateful Undead - Have I mentioned that there's some surprisingly beautiful music on here, given it's a horror soundtrack?  This one blends unsuspected scary with soft beauty so well.  I do marvel at our composers.

"Salmon Dean" In The Heartland - I'd say the track does its job.  It makes me thing of the Midwest, of driving down the highway with the windows rolled down and my hand thrown out and waving in the wind.  It's the flat plains and the slow-moving cattle and the giant cornstalks and everything that's simultaneously boring and beautiful about this region.  Basically, the roadtrip aspect of the show summed up in four minutes.

Blood Drops Keep Falling On My Head - I'm pretty sure this was on the previously-released score under a different name, and shorter.  It sounds very post-Jessica's-death to me.  There's also a really creepy hellish noise at the end.  *shudders*

Old 'Monster Movie' - Guess which episode?  No, really.  Guess.  There's so much that's awesome about this track that I can't even begin to describe it.  Just know that when you listen to it, you start thinking everything should be in black and white.

Decapitation Variations - Remember 1.19, when Sam and Dean broke into the museum/auction house thing?  That's this song.  It was on the previously released score, too, under the title "Boys Break In."  I know this because I used it to make a fanfic promo once and am still head-over-heels for the energy of this song.  You have no idea how glad I am that they included it (and lengthened it for the official release).

Tears In Their Beers - Another touching track (as the name would suggest).  There's something about this that screams "death... and meeting up in the afterlife," though I have no idea why.  Does anyone know which episode(s) this is from?  It's hauntingly familiar, but I can't quite place it.  And I think I'd like to have it played at my funeral.

Gratuitous Sex And Violins - I'm pretty sure I remember this one from early (like, season one) promos.  Not sure.

Ruby: So Cute, So Creepy - Ruby's theme, I assume.  But I know I've heard parts of it pre-season three.  And what is that?  Guitar?  Banjo?  Whatever it is, it's creepy and interesting.  I do like the slow and subtle build from creepy to quietly malevolent.

The Family Business/Elegy For John - I won't lie.  I was hoping this was a retitled version of "A Father's Despair" from the first score release.  It's not.  Doesn't make it any less touching or sad, but I really liked that first one a lot better.  I was kinda hoping it would be on this album.

The Meatsuit Mambo - A little dark.  A little twisty.  A little creepy.  Another one of unknown origin, but it's so interesting you don't really care by the end.

Lilith Unfair - Was this played underneath the Lucifer Rising scene?  Because there's an element of seduction and subterfuge joined with a sense of urgency here that's creepy and familiar at the same time.  Maybe it was 4.18.  Maybe it was both.

End Credits And Mo' Guitar Grit - Have I mentioned how much I LOVE the guitar riffs?  Because I really do.  I think the amount of guitar in these songs is what makes me love them so much.  This one especially.  It's an extended version of the end theme we all love so much.  And it rocks.
