After seeing the Historical Museum we went back to Cherry Lane and loaded up the car with a homemade Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake that Donna had made to take along to see Jean.
jeanerk1 Then Donna and Manolo drove us to Jean's home which is out in the country near Grand Rapids. It was a nice drive and Jean's home is wonderful. We even saw a few deer along the way.
When we got to Jeans she suggested that we take in a few historical covered bridges before going to a special restaurant for dinner. She even packed us up a snack of crackers, cheese, and Spanish wine to sample along the way!
Behind the cut are the thumbnail photos of that trip.
After we got to her house, Jean suggested that we might like to see some covered bridges on our way to the restaurant for dinner.
This is the first of three bridges that she showed us.
This bridge is across the Flat River and is still used by cars.
The sign Robert and Donna are reading is a historical marker. I loved the sign on the bridge top.
The view through the bridge.
The Flat River is very calm in that area.
Here is the historical marker about the bridge.
Here is a view of the sign on the bridge that so fun.
Another view of a nearby park and the Flat River.
There were some people in kayaks on the river.
Then we went on to see a second covered bridge further along the river. This one is also still used.

Another view of the covered bridge.
At the second bridge we had a little wine, crackers, and cheese picnic. That was part of Jean's surprise. The wine was from Spain and the cheese was delicious!
Here is the historic marker for the second bridge.
I had a visitor on my arm. He was harmless and had cute red tips on his antennae.
There was a nice walkway and dock at the base of the second bridge.
The water was very calm right here.
Here we are toasting a lovely *picnic*. Donna - Jean - Sue
Another picture of the *picnic* group. This time Manolo joined us.
Robert saw THREE fish jump... and was regretting the lack of a fishing pole.
Here is our cute hostess, Jean.
This was the third covered bridge we visited. No one drives over this bridge except once a year when antique cars are allowed to drive across it.
Here is Manolo walking across the third covered bridge.
And here is Donna also looking closer at the bridge.

Beyond the third bridge was a dam.

After seeing the third bridge we went to a great restaurant nearby.
This was my dinner which was salmon, beets, and other yummy stuff.
And again, here is our cute hostess and Donna. They all had different dishes. They also had their Oberons!
After dinner we went back to Jean's house and had the wonderful cheesecake for dessert while having more interesting conversation. Before we left to head back to East Lansing we even got to hear the song of Jeans resident Whippoorwill!
