I have just heard the BBC are adapting another of Sarah Waters novels. This time it is "The Night Watch" and I am beyond happy about this news! This is probably my favourite Waters novel, which also means I am going to be incredibly nervous about the whole thing.
I like Sarah Waters' writing style, and enjoy her descriptive narration. There are times when an escape is exactly what I need from a book, and I think she has a knack for bringing out the ambience of the environment, the characters and their emotions, which allows you to immerse yourself easily into whichever world she happens to be writing about.
I do genuinely love all her novels, though I have an affinity for historical novels, particularly for those set during WWII, so perhaps this had a teeny bit of a head start. While I like "Tipping the Velvet", I prefer the darker aspects of "Fingersmith" and "Affinity"; likewise I also preferred the "Fingersmith" and "Affinity" adaptations, whereas "Tipping the Velvet" got a bit farcical for me at times. Lets hope they do this one justice.
I might go read it again...
