It made me quite sad to hear that the infamous Chestnut Tree that gave Anne Frank hope was destroyed during a storm in Amsterdam on Monday. While it may have been diseased and rotten, it remained symbolic. It is nice to hear there is a small shoot growing from the splintered trunk, which is hoped to grow and give new life.

"As long as this exists, ... and I may live to see it, this sunshine, the cloudless skies - while this lasts I cannot be unhappy."
