So it begins...

Went to the midnight showing of Half Blood Prince with my sister and her boyfriend. Nice movie, surprisingly scary at some points (or maybe I was just sleep deprived). Trailer for New Moon left a bad taste in my mouth, though of course it didn't help that our entire theater erupted into rabid cheers. God, I want that saga to DIE already. DIE DIE DIE into the obsurity that awaits all paranormal romances.

Absolutely no offence meant to the readers or writers of paranormal romances, of course. I just don't get how the hell people can get so worked up over one.

Anyway, during the four-hour wait on the sidewalk before the cinema, I managed to finish my query letter for Aqua Vitae. Oh yes, I've finished the novella (25,000 words) and now I'm going to start querying some small presses. Not sure how this will work out. The story has a good voice and thanks to the exhaustive rewrite it now also has a plot (nice bonus, that), but I'm still uncertain. There isn't a huge market for science fiction novellas, after all (acutally, most novella publishers I can find through duotrope take paranormal romance).

Maybe I can add in my query letter that it'll be the next Twilight. Aside from the fact that the tag line would work (When you love forever, what do you live for?...so many answers to that question; maybe I'll share some when I'm less sleep-deprived), other similarities include...absolutely none. I hope.
