One scholarship essay...er, 'brief statement of 500 words or less' (I'm about half less) completed. I managed to tell the truth, while artfully managing to look competent. In my own mind, at least. That said, it certianly isn't a deathless piece of prose. But it's serviceable, which is more than I was expecting when I first looked at the scholarship requirements.
Also, I think I'm one of a fairly small minority of youth who have asked their pastor to write them a letter of recommendation. It came complete with St. Mary's stationary and a biblical quote. Which is a combination of funny, sweet, and just what I was expecting.
College admissions starts looking a lot easier once you're in the thick of it. Of course, it probably isn't possible for it to look harder.
