In the spirit of the fact that we just came back from LA, which is being run by the T-100 Governator,
here. Can the robot apocalypse by far behind?
Now, onto other stuff. We are now back from the land of the US of A, after having spent many weeks gaining many memories, stuff (mmm....shiny) and kilos of waistline whilst we were over there. I've been trying to decide what the most pragmatic form of capturing the experience will be. For six and a half weeks, I kept notes the whole way around America - feverishly writing down notes, events and ideas in the corners of Denny's (yes, just like a mad person...er..."writer"...) and I've been wondering what the best way to translate that into prose would be. One moster LJ post that most people will read the first paragraph of, get tired, and click on the robot link? I'd actually been planning from the get go to do a literal day by day update, albeit six weeks later than the actual occurance, based on the notes I took, but I'm not sure that a) I'm a good enough writer to sustain that for 50 odd posts and b) it would actually be interesting to anybody other than myself. To whit - Day 36 - We had sandwichs at Arbys and I ate so much meat that I felt ill. Also, hee! Meat! I am, in fact, 14 years old.
At any rate, any input would be welcome. We really did have an awesome trip, and I do want to try to convey that here. It was my first time out of the country of my birth, and given the stereotypical view of America we get forcefed by television, the real america is very different to what I, even uncosciously, expected. It struck me as a land of dichotomies - the people I met were lovely, and yet you turn on the news and there's gun battles on the freeways (admittedly there were a few SUVs/vehicles *I* wanted to bust a cap into, but then I feel like that riding on Australian freeways, too) I also never expected everyone on the freeways to be as polite as the turned out to be, but I guess that happens when rudeness is potentially punished with weaponry. Anyway, a very interesting trip, and I certainly would like some input from anyone reading as to the format of the actual (as opposed to this post) update I do about it...
