Some of you may have heard about Dr. Paulo Zamboni from Italy whose wife was diagnosed with MS and had conducted his own studies & research of the cause and cure for MS. His initial study (65 people) showed that he believes MS to not be an auto-immune but actually a vascular disease.
He is calling the phenomenon chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI), a dysfunction of brain blood flow and/or blood drainage, which may be contributing to nervous system damage in MS.
Of course, further trials & larger studies need to be conducted - but if proven right, then this could revolutionize what MS is and the treatments for it! In fact, they have already started a new study of 1600 people to do further research. They have taken 500 already and will be looking for more (unfortunately, enrollment has already closed until late January 2010).
