5:12 PM 7/28/07 · Flipping through channels, innocently enough, in my early teens is how I discovered Doctor Who; I was barely into my teens. For perspective, I'm 36 now. The first Doctor I ever knew was the 3rd but I've seen all of them over the time; the 4th remains my favorite to this day. I was pretty quickly hooked and tried to watch it as often as possible. Back then Doctor Who came on Monday through Friday at 7pm on KTEH and Sunday evenings around 9pm.
Mondays through Fridays you got a single episode, a chapter of a complete adventure. The Sunday evening one was an entire story from beginning to end.
With the exception of the last 3 Doctors, all of the previous Doctor Who Doctors have had adventures that lasted longer than an hour. I'd guesstimate the average to be an hour and a ½ to 3 hours to be the standard. While the alst two Doctors have been exceptional, in my opinion, it is extremely frustrating that the timespan of their adventures has been cut so tragically short. Especially when longtime fans are used to having so much more time to enjoy a situation.
I'm not sure if this is because the people behind the show feel the viewers have a much shorter attention span than they used to or if they just don't have the budget to give it to us like they used to.
