This is so - you know something, I had planned to write you two fics before rl came along and stopped me, the second being your festival prompt with margot being dragged to San Francisco for pride and whilst it never quite materialised it seems fortuitous that we both at least considered margot fics for utterly different prompts, with so many open options. Does this count as something being like... fate-adjacent?

Anyway - back to THIS FIC. I adore how you've captured the brittleness of her, the perfected juxtaposition of her muted bitterness against the pastel americana. The care with which she smokes, deconstructing herself as she does so (She didn't like the way it looked in the glass - like she was an advertisement or a model showing how glamorous smoking could be.) - I always got the impression Margot smokes less to hold onto her coolness, and more to muddy herself. If it looks too old Hollywood, it looks wrong.

And all the little details - the fortune teller's box! the laundromat! the graffitti! - brightness mingling with city grit. All of this makes me happy.

Thank you so so much!

Omg! I think that's great that we both thought of Margot. Honestly, I only really know 2 Wes Andersen movies and the only person I could see on a dark street with cascading smoke was her. Kismet :)

I'm glad you liked it! I think that part with her looking in the glass was my favorite part to write. Because I used to stare in the mirror in my old apartment when I smoked, and I liked the way I looked. And I knew Margot wouldn't feel that way.
:) :) :)
