Hello, from the land of happy exhaustion . . .

Jun 28, 2008 16:13

Because we are packing to move. In 2 & 1/2 days, We will be in our new apartment. I can enjoy it for three whole days, and then I leave for our semi-annual conference. This one is going smoothly so far; it should be a good time and then over. After that, I start my "summer job", teaching at horse camp on Wednesdays. Unfortunately, I have to participate in my grown-up life the rest of the week.

Today I took Wonder Pony and Timid Soul to my friend's farm; Timid Soul and Fairy Child need some new experiences. Wonder Pony and I have been around so much nothing surprises us any more, hahaha. Wonder Pony, who was sold to us under the guise of the soul of experience and child-appropriateness, had developed some wicked habits, such as running off with children, but we've worked through them now and she is good as, well, not solid gold but maybe 14karat electroplate. She was angelic today, and was showered with treats. Maybe she'll make the connection in her machiavellian little mind. Timid Soul was very bouncy and tourist-y, saying things like "Look! Other horses! I don't know them! They have people on their backs! They're jumping over things!" and "Look! it's a black dog! with short hair! It has a stick!" Lots of stopping and staring, a bit of bucking (he's a "fun ride") and a little good work. Well, lots of work for me, as i paced around the ring when Fairy Child rode, and riding a rubbernecking, whinnying-every-5-minutes horse is hard work. One surreal moment: my friends farm is a clearing in the woods, down a longish dirt road, and yet somewhere nearby there was an ice-cream-truck. I swear, those things are everywhere!

finally, before I get back to my packing, I wanted to rec this on-line comic that a friend of mine writes: http://vendable.net/sto.html it's interesting, and subtle, and a bit off-kilter, so perfect for people looking for something not-typical.

*hugs*
