Tonight I auditioned for a local
conservatory in town. This being the first time I've sang in front of an actual audience, I decided to go conservative and stick with two pieces I knew: "Beau Soir" by Debussy and "Deh Vieni, Non Tardar" by Mozart. The auditioners, two elderly faculty members suffered through Debussy (I missed at least two entrances) before requesting to hear Mozart. Though I am stupendously underqualified to sing anything Mozart, it was the piece I felt most comfortable with, due in no small part to the simple fact that I love the song.
The only things they said after were Thank you, and we'll definitely contact you either way. All in all I was in and out in less than five minutes. Whatever the outcome, I'm chalking this up to gusto and experience. At least I did something about this singing business, goddammit.
