Bleechhhh.
Last week, my laptop beeped and told me it didn't recognize the power source. Today, I found out that it's not the AC adapter that's the problem. It's the machine. Fuck.
In other, worse news, Bush has broken his administration-long streak of unfulfilled veto threats by vetoing a bill in the dumbest, cruelest, most short-sighted way he possibly could. Well, what did we expect? Reason?
On the one hand, we have the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. This would have made a dent in the fatuous law we have on the books now, which has effectively halted meaningful stem cell research within the US. On the other, we have the fallacious anti-abortion arguments of the Christian Right, whose support Bush needs if he wishes to further his agenda during the latter half of his second (hopefully final, although it doesn't seem wise to bet on that) term.
So, of course, in the name of political expediency, we get a veto which lessens the likelihood of realizing stem cells' health benefits any time soon, relinquishes the US' scientific initiative to other countries, contributes to the country's continuing brain drain, and fails to save even one potential human life.
Good going, Mr. Bush!
