Series: Ouran Koukou Host-bu (Ouran High School Host Club)
Series' Medium: Anime and ongoing manga.

Character you're applying for: Morinozuka Takashi (otherwise known as Mori-senpai, or Senior Mori)
Character's role in their canon: Mori is a part of the main cast, but he's the background character of the main cast. He gets the least amount of focused screen time in the anime and in the manga.
Character's age: 18
Character's gender: Male
Character's "Real Name": William "Will" Banks

How long have you roleplayed your character, if at all?: I've played him a little bit over at Atomic Family, another LJ RP.

Where have you roleplayed in general and/or with this specific character?: I play three other characters at Damned, one character at SiebenRPG, Mori at Atomic Family, and I used to play at a now defunct blog-based RP.

Have you played the game/watched the movie or anime/read the book or comic, etc. that your character hails from?: I've seen the anime and read the online translations of the manga available at onemanga.com, but I'll likely be using the manga version of him since there is more character development there than in the anime.

Please give us a detailed personal history of your character: Morinozuka Takashi, otherwise known as Mori by his friends and Takashi by his cousin Haninozuka "Honey" Mitsukuni, is the mostly silent final member of the Ouran High School Host Club. Little is really known about Mori's family other than how it is tied to the Haninozuka clan. The Haninozuka Clan owns a famous karate dojo and the Morinozuka clan was charged with their protection generations ago. Despite being joined in marriage two generations ago, Mori still follows his family's tradition and serves Honey even though they are now cousins and the old bond of servitude is supposed to be broken.

Mori is a third year student at the prestigious Ouran High School, a top class school in Tokyo, Japan, where the country's wealthy and brilliant send their children to be educated. Although from his personality, one wouldn't expect Mori to be in something quite so outgoing as the Host Club, the reason lies with his cousin, Honey. Before meeting the outgoing Suou Tamaki, head and self-proclaimed King of the Host Club, Honey tried very hard to bury his sweets-loving, childish personality. Mori always thought it wasn't a good idea, but went with it and helped support Honey since that was what his cousin needed to do in order to "uphold the honor" of the Haninozuka clan. During their first year of high school, Tamaki approached Honey and invited him to join the Host Club where he could indulge in his love of sweets. Honey joined and Mori went with him. Tamaki also approached Mori off-screen, but the methods he used to convince the taciturn teen and what they spoke about are never revealed.

Skip forward two years, Mori is now a third year and an established member of the Host Club. He doesn't actually do much hosting in reality, using his taciturny, his good looks, and his gentleness with his cousin as his selling point. He's second in his class, next to Honey, and is the national champion in kendo. Everything changes the day a rather clumsy bookworm mistakenly wanders into the music room and knocks over an 8 million yen vase and is made into the Club's slave in order to repay their debt. That bookworm is actually Fujioka Haruhi, a boyish looking girl and the main character in the series. Mori is among the first to realize that Haruhi was actually a girl when he picked her up to save her from Tamaki's fawning. He and Honey are also among the first to recognize the complex love triangles flying about and they both wonder when (if ever) everyone else will figure their feelings out.

In the club, Mori doesn't play a significant role, not really hosting so much as taking care of his cousin. Most of his fans are introverted girls who like him for his quiet and gentle nature or people who like to fangirl over how he takes care of Honey (usually those are the Honey fans who just like their relationship). He takes especially good care of Honey and turns clumsy when the other teen is missing or unhappy. When Honey disappears at Otori tropical theme park, Mori trips into ditches and falls over a lot, but also uses his somewhat strange instincts to hone in on the boy. Even though he caters to Honey's wishes, he doesn't spoil him completely, and when Honey gets a cavity, it's Mori who initiates the ban on sweets. It ends up that he's punishing himself for letting Honey get a cavity by not brushing his teeth twice, but it shows how powerful of a hold Honey has on his cousin. Mori takes complete responsibility for Honey's wellbeing, much like his younger brother Satoshi does for Honey's brother Chika (although the latter two are the exact opposites of Mori and Honey).

There isn't a lot of significant history about Mori since he tends to just stay in the background and follow along wherever Honey goes. He once gained an "apprentice" if one could call it that when the head of a yakuza family, the young Kasanoda Ritsu, tries to learn how to gain friends even though he has a terrifying expression and rarely speaks. He wants Mori to teach him because he says that he can get people to like him even with "lifeless eyes, a wooden expression, antisocial character and a face that belongs to a guard dog of hell." Mori, understandably, did not take very well to the description, but accepted Kasanoda in the end because he had no other choice. He did, however, get the help of the Club since he really had no idea what to do.

In the end, Mori protected Kasanoda when people were coming after him, not saying a thing despite Kasanoda misunderstanding the situation and thinking someone was after Mori. He figured he didn't need to tell Kasanoda the truth until the ones targeting him were caught because not only could he see that Kasanoda was a good guy, but he wanted Kasanoda to realize it himself - as did the rest of the Club members. Kasanoda ends up finding out that Haruhi is a girl and develops a crush on her, that ends with them being just friends. However, Mori and Honey were on the sidelines during that entire ordeal and the episode ends with a startling revelation - the third years are the only ones who notice who has feelings for who. They both know that Hikaru and Tamaki like Haruhi, but they agree that the problem lies with Kaoru and Kyoya who haven't realized anything at all. They're both content to let things progress naturally though and leave it at that.

After that, however, we get another look into Mori's mind when Tamaki comes down with a high fever since he thinks he's in the wrong for wanting to kiss Haruhi, meaning he might not love her like a father. He asks Mori if he's ever thought of wanting to kiss Honey and he refuses quickly. It's revealed later that he feels guilty that Tamaki's fever got that way because of what he said and that he wonders if lying to Tamaki and saying yes wouldn't be a bad idea after all, just to help his friend out.

The final episode before taking Mori from the series would be his encounter with the tanuki (a raccoon dog). He helps out a lost tanuki and the creature tries to repay him by bringing him vegetables and acorns and things, but only ends up wrecking the club room and ruining Mori's things. The episode functions as a prelude to the drama to come - Hikaru and Kaoru honestly fighting over Haruhi and the class trip to France which Tamaki is not allowed to go on because it would break his contract with his grandmother. The chapter itself, however, ends well with Honey luring the tanuki in with cake and Mori using Piyo (his pet chicken - he has a lot of pets apparently) as a translator so that he can talk to the tanuki. He ends up keeping the tanuki for awhile until he's able to find a home for it back in the mountains.

Please give us a detailed description of your character's personality: Taciturny is one of Mori's biggest points. He rarely speaks, preferring to stay in the background for most things, getting carried along by the wild antics of the others in the group. While that would normally be a negative point for most people, his silence makes up for the fact that his cousin is so talkative. He's the serious one to balance out Honey's cute and outgoing nature. That said, Mori is actually quite gentle and good-natured, and often takes cares of injured animals that he finds, nursing them back to health or raising them as pets. He's also surprisingly easily hurt emotionally, taking things to heart quickly (such as when Kasanoda points out his negative traits with stinging honesty).

At the same time, he is extremely honest himself and when he chooses to say anything, it's usually in a very straightforward manner. The only example we really have of him lying is when he tells Tamaki that he's never thought of kissing Honey. Later, we find out that he's been feeling guilty the entire chapter because Tamaki got sick over it. He debates telling Tamaki the truth, but it's too late and he's embarrassed by it, so he chooses to keep it secret.

He and Honey are also very insightful about the dynamics of the group and figure things out quickly, choosing to remain neutral parties as much as possible to the love drama unfolding around them. Mori plays confidante to Hikaru when the twins have their fights and Honey comforts Kaoru. Mori also tends to listen to anyone who needs a shoulder to cry on, meaning he hears from Tamaki occasionally when the teen has nowhere else to turn.

In the Club, Mori is known as the Wild Type, probably stemming more from his heavy reliance on instinct (like his sense of smell and protective personality) and the way animals flock to him than any actual wild side. The biggest factor in his personality, however, is Honey. He goes where Honey goes, is upset when Honey is upset, and babies the teen endlessly over the smallest scratch since he sees it as his duty to protect him from anything bad. That doesn't mean he'll spoil him, though. If Honey wants something that is bad for him, Mori will put his foot down and stop it - even if later he has to deal with the consequences. While normally quite graceful, when upset or depressed, he becomes extremely clumsy and falls over the tiniest crack in the floor. It takes a lot to upset him, though, and the main cause is usually Honey being angry or unhappy.

Random facts: When Mori is tired or sleep deprived, he becomes unnaturally talkative and flirtatious. After a nap, though, he remembers nothing of what he did.

Please give us a detailed physical description of your character: Standing at 6'4, Mori is the tallest in the Host Club, which is helpful since his cousin is the shortest. He has short black hair, slightly tousled looking, and dark grey eyes, slightly tanned skin and an athletic build from training in traditional Japanese combat arts like kendo. Since he's a national champion, his arms are extremely strong and he's fast on his feet. He rarely smiles and usually has the quintessential "blank" expression on his face. In the manga, there is an extra that said the Club used to play a game where they tried to figure out what Mori was thinking, and the game failed because it was too hard.

What point in time are you taking your character from when he/she appears at Landel's?: I'm going to take Mori from after chapter 50 of the manga, meaning Hikaru and Kaoru have not yet started their fight. It's right after the tanuki (raccoon dog episode)

What kinds of magical/special/crazy powers does your character have, if any?: Nothing really.

If present, how do you plan to tweak those powers to make him/her appropriately hindered in the setting of Landel's?: Nyet.

Does your character have any other non-magical skills or abilities that we should know about?: He does have a crazy sense of smell, but that might just be tuned to Honey. |D; He is also the Japanese national kendo champion and is rich like the rest of the Ouran boys.

How about improbable appendages?: LOVELY ITEM. :| It's missing right now though. ;_;

Please give us an idea of where you'd like to take your character within the scope of the Landel's Damned RP: He'll of course make friends, but probably stick to protecting and helping the Ouran crew and their friends. Since Honey isn't around at the moment, he'll also be trying desperately to find him and maybe gain a little personal independence from his reliance on his cousin as his anchor.

What kind of psychological effect do you see Landel's Institute having on your character?: Mori isn't used to having to do anything on his own. Without Honey there, I can see a lot of character development by necessity. He'll have to learn how to be without his cousin, which will be an interesting change for him. More than likely, he'll try to find a surrogate for awhile, but eventually he'll learn to stand a little more on his own feet. If we ever get a Honey, it's likely he'll revert, but possibly lose the complete codependence on him.

That said, this place is definitely going to traumatize him. :|

Given that this RP takes place in an unsettling and outright horrific environment, how do you justify your character as being appropriate in both body and mind for this kind of setting?: Ouran boys get grandfathered in? 8D;; He may not be used to it at all, but with people to protect, he'll focus on that rather than the disturbing nature of events around him.

Third-Person Sample:
Too many sweet potatoes. That was all Mori could think of when he finally dropped the last box off at a local commoner restaurant. He figured they could use them more than he could, and he'd already given several to Haruhi and everyone else. The tanuki had been kind in giving him all those vegetables, but he didn't need all of them. He had to find a use for all of them, though, or the tanuki would have been offended. He was certain it had taken a long time to bring all of the vegetables together. He'd been able to use the mushrooms and other things, but really - sweet potatoes, too many.

Mitsukuni was still at school and Mori hurried back, not bothering with the car since the exercise would do him some good. It didn't take long to arrive back at the school and seek out his cousin who was, like usual, playing with the others in their class. There wasn't any reason to disturb him yet so Mori stayed outside, leaning against the wall. He could hear the conversations going on inside and he waited, as he always did, until he would be needed.

"What kind of cake do you like best, Honey-kun?"

"Oh, all of them!"

"With all those sweets, don't you ever get sick of them?"

"Never!"

Mori smiled faintly, shaking his head. It was the same conversation just with different players. People fawned over his cousin and Mitsukuni ate the attention up like it was Belgium chocolate. Mori didn't mind though. As long as Mitsukuni was happy and healthy, that was all that mattered. He remembered a time when the small blond was miserable every single day. He was physically strong, that was for certain, but he was turning out to be a horrible leader. Pretending to be harsh and uncaring to fit the model of a "man" that his relatives wanted had done nothing but damage Mitsukuni's spirit, and during that entire ordeal, Mori had wanted to say something so badly. He had kept quiet only because it was something Mitsukuni needed to recognize himself - that being Honey wasn't so bad. It had been painful for Mori to watch his cousin suffer, but it had been worth it so that he could overhear conversations like these. Besides, so long as Mori was always there to take care of Mitsukuni and serve him as his family had done for generations, that was all that-

There was a shift in the air and his senses went on alert, the hair at the back of his neck standing on end. What was that? The entire atmosphere switched in an instant into something completely different and somewhat...stale. The voices had stopped and Mori opened his eyes, dashing around the corner to check on-

Nothing.

He rolled out of an unfamiliar bed and dropped onto the ground, face first.

His nose and knees and hands smarted from the impact, but there was something much worse going on here. He couldn't sense Mitsukuni. The smells of this strange commoner hospital room were foreign and the clothes he wore weren't his own. This was reality though, he could sense that much. The biggest problem was that Mitsukuni wasn't there - he wasn't anywhere nearby. Standing up, Mori went immediately to the door, throwing it open in time to run smack over a squat woman in white scrubs.

"Ah, Mr. Banks. I'm glad to see you so eager to start your day. Welcome to Landel's Institute."

Mori straightened up and hit his head on the doorframe. He really hoped Mitsukuni was here or he'd be black and blue before night fell.

First-Person Sample:
Tamaki says Mitsukuni was here before. I guess I need to keep looking.
