Best. Referece publication. Ever.
I was hanging out in Borders a few weeks ago while I was on my lunch break, and near the checkout lines, there was this little white book. It was called "Freak Nation: A Field Guide to 101 of the Most Odd, Extreme, and Outrageous American Subcultures." It looked sort of interesting, so I picked it up and perused it a bit. Then came across the section on cosplay. Repeat: THE SECTION ON COSPLAY. Caitlin is a poor college student, though, and while passing the time staring at all those lovely books on all those lovely shelves is quite nice, I didn't actually have any money to buy anything. Which sucked. But when I did have the money and a 40% Borders Rewards Plus coupon~ I ordered the book on Borders.com.
So I've decided to share some scans with you guys. XD;; Here are pages 1 and 2, and here is the last page. I wish there was more, but 101 topics is quite a lot, so I don't blame the author for not more in depth. I do have a little bone to pick about her calling cosplay an American subculture, when it originated in Japan, but I guess if we do it over here, it techincally is an American subculture. Meh. I guess I should just be happy that she wrote about it at all. XD;;
