Name: Piscaria
Age and Location: Mid-twenties; Washington state.
Favorite Fairy Tale: Probably Snow White, Rose Red, although I'm also rather fond of Beauty and the Beast and The Juniper Tree.
Favorite Myth: The Rape of Persephone
Favorite retellings of/artworks for fairy tale, folklore, fable, myth or legend: I read A LOT of mythic fiction, so it's going to be a long list! To start with, I adore Ovid's Metamorphoses. It's my favorite retelling of the classical myths, and was the main reason I chose to minor in Latin (the original is even better than the English translations). In terms of modern retellings of classical myths, I'm very fond of The Marriage of Cadmus and Harmony by Roberto Calasso. For retellings of fairy tales and legends, I adore Beauty by Robin McKinley, Jack of Kinrowan by Charles de Lint, Tam Lin by Pamela Dean, The Once and Future King by T.H. White, Daughter of the Forest by Juliette Marillier, Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterson and Briar Rose by Jane Yolen. I also have to list Little, Big by John Crowley, though it wasn't so much inspired by one fairy tale as by the idea of fairy tales. For movies with a mythic/fairy-tale twist, I especially adore Labyrinth, The Piano, and Apocolypse Now.
Favorite authors/artists: Charles de Lint, Terri Windling, John Crowley, Francesca Lia Block, Ursula K. LeGuin, Virginia Woolf, Herman Melville, Ovid, Jim Grimsley . . . the list goes on and on.
Favorite LJ authors/artists: I read a lot of authors in a lot of fandoms. My absolute favorites are lyricality, theidolhands, somniesperus, cesperanza, ivyblossom and emmagrant01 . . . again, I could keep going.
Link(s) to your works: The memories section of my lj has links to all of my fanfiction. My original work is all intended for publication at some point, so I don't post it publically, I'm afraid. For something with a mythic feel to it, check out Bound, an H/D story based on Prometheus Bound. It's several years old, and my writing style has progressed considerably since then, but I'm kind of nostalgically fond of it.
