Manga featuring fairy tales with a Gothic twist
The following are two manga by Kaori Yuki which heavily features fairy tales, with a Gothic twist.
Ludwig Kakumei (Ludwig Revolution) is the story of Prince Ludwig, a female corpse collector, who is ordered by his father to find himself a wife more suitable than the women he often brings into the castle. Along with his servant Wilhelm, they travel across the land in search of fair maidens from classic stories in hopes of finding Ludwig a wife.
1.1 1.2 "Snow White": The story of a queen with a daughter who has skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, hair as dark as ebony and soul to match. A much twisted version of the old-fashioned fairytale.
2: How Little Red Riding Hood truly got her red hood... (V. dark and gothic--lots of blood, gore etc.)
3.1 3.2 3.3 "Sleeping Beauty": Yet another more twisted version of the well-loved fairytale. But not as bad as the first two.
4 "Bluebeard"
Count Cain is Poisoned Love
Count Cain is the story of a nobleman with an interest in poison from 19th century England. Cain inherited the title of Earl of Hargreaves when his father died after failing to poison him. As he fell, he cursed Cain to a life of solitude. The story follows him through many mysteries involving poison. The series is praised for its twisted plot, morbid humor, dark yet flamboyant style, excellent artwork and a touch of heart-breaking depravity of human nature.
