It hasn't been the greatest of days. It started off nice enough --- a breakfast at Smitty's with
davila as we brainstormed some ideas for the poster assignment we're working on. Then it was back home where I waited for Mike to return from church. However, my mother decided she was going to get on my back about matters that she was fine with just a few weeks ago. It put me in a bad mood, to say the least.
Later in the day, the kids were upstairs playing in Hailey's room. Amber (my niece), suddenly comes running down the stairs and says: "Hailey just called me a fucking asshole!!!"
My jaw hit the floor. Mike was outside having a smoke at the time. I told him to come upstairs pronto. Poor Hailey looked absolutely terrified, and Mike was none the happy when he found out the words that had come out of her mouth. We sat her down, and in all her innocence she tells us that she thought it was a "nice thing to say." We asked her where she'd heard those words, but she said she couldn't remember where she'd learned it. The problem is, she could've learnt it anywhere....so I do not lay blame on her mother or on anyone for that matter. These days you can hardly go out in public without being bombarded by profanity-filled conversations. Needless to say, we made it quite clear that those words are NOT nice, and to never say them again unless she wanted to find out what soap tasted like. Yikes. She's only 4-1/2 years old.....I wish I could protect her from that kind of language. That is NOT something I ever want to hear out coming out of a child's mouth.
This week week is going to be hectic. On the bright side? I don't have to worry about work anymore. My evenings are now free, as are my weekends. This is precisely what I need.
