Summary: Based on the songs Goodbye, My eyes don't lie (By Janice Wei), and I'm still loving you (By Shiga).
I can see the pain living in your eyes
And I know how hard you try
You deserve to have so much more
I can feel your heart and I sympathize
And I'll never criticize all you've ever meant to my life
“TAKANORI! IF YOU SET ONE FOOT OUTSIDE THIS HOUSE, DON’T EVER BOTHER COMING BACK! I TOLD YOU TO STOP SEEING THAT GUY!! I WILL NOT ACCEPT HIM. EVER! YOU HEAR ME?”
“WELL! IF YOU CAN’T ACCEPT HIM, YOU CAN’T ACCEPT ME EITHER! SO DO WHAT YOU WANT, I DON’T WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS STUPID FAMILY ANYWAYS!!” Reita winced as he shuffled uncomfortably against his bike, biting his bottom lip in guilt at the distasteful turn of events. Another argument… and it’s all because of me. Again. He watched with apprehensive eyes as Ruki stomped over to him, radiating with silent fury as he climbed on to the motorbike behind Reita.
“… You ok?” Reita whispered uncertainly, not daring to raise his voice; not trusting it to not betray his emotions. Ruki sighed.
“Akira. Look at me.” He ordered, tip of his finger nudging Reita’s face towards him when the elder refused, eyes softening as he caught the immense guilt pooling from those chocolate orbs.
“It’s not your fault, ok?” But it is… it’s all my fault.
“I’d have done the same if it was another guy, so don’t you dare beat yourself up for it.” But… But that’s just it. It isn’t someone else, it’s me… It’s ME.
“… Just, get me out of here, please Aki.” Reita nodded mutely, steering out of the double gates, Ruki’s arms wrapped tightly around his waist as the younger blonde leaned against him, mentally and emotionally drained. Taka… Don’t worry, this will all end soon… I promise.
You deserve the chance at the kind of love
I'm not sure I'm worthy of
Losing you is painful to me
I don't want to let you down
I don't want to lead you on
I don't want to hold you back
From where you might belong
“So… what did you wanna tell me?”
“… Let’s break up.” Ruki’s eyes widened, shock numbing his senses, till he couldn’t quite figure out what was going on anymore.
“Wha- Why?! Is this some kind of sick joke?!” He choked out agitatedly, past the bulge building up in his throat. This can’t be happening…
“I… I’ve found someone else.” Ruki stared at the other blonde speechlessly, pure disbelief etched over his face. He’s lying!! His heart screamed at him to dismiss the harsh lie, to regard it as absolute rubbish; because it had to be a lie. He searched his lover’s eyes, trying to find something… anything that would prove his guilt; that would show him that the other still loved him… But those rich chocolate eyes, that once gazed so tenderly at him, were now dead. All he could see was a pair of hardened eyes, full of resolution and blinding coldness… eyes that were so void of the love and emotion they usually presented, clad in an unreadable mask. But you promised… that I was, and would always ever be the only one for you… that you’d never leave me…
You would never ask me why
My heart is so disguised
I just can't live a lie anymore
I would rather hurt myself
Than to ever make you cry
There's nothing left to try
Though it's gonna hurt us both
There's no other way than to say good-bye
Reita turned to leave, clenched fist trembling as his weeping heart shattered into a mess of crystal shards. The look Ruki had on his face just now… The hurt and pain clearly evident; the hurt and pain he had inflicted… that face was one that he could never forget; one that would forever haunt his memories. He had barely taken a few steps, when he heard a hasty patter of footsteps behind him, a lithe frame slamming into his back as familiar arms wrapped tightly around his torso.
“Don’t… Don’t lie…” He felt the younger male shudder, face buried in his back, words coming out as soft gasps. Ruki… Don’t cry… don’t make this harder than it already is…
“Let go of me.” Reita gulped past the lump in his throat, blinking furiously to clear his vision when he felt the sweeping of blonde strands across his back; the younger male had shaken his head. Taking a deep breath to steady his raging emotions, he deliberately shrugged Ruki off, dislodging himself from the man’s comforting embrace. He couldn’t give in now; he had to do this.
“I’m sick of this; disagreements with your parents, sneaking around… I’m tired, Ruki. Tired of our relationship… Tired of us.” He ignored the sharp stabbing pain coursing through his body, as he suppressed his true emotions, his heart burning from the cruel words; the cruellest of lies he had ever spoken. But I have to… I won’t let Ruki suffer anymore… He deserves more than me. This is all I can do for him.
“You have to be strong on your own, Ruki.” Be strong, my love… For yourself, and for me.
“Because I won’t be here to wipe away your tears anymore.” And for the second, and last time, he turned, walking away from his young lover; walking away from his heart, his love… walking away from his world.
I’m sorry. I love you.
When I close my eyes I think of you
And the times we’ve had been through
Even though we’re far apart right now
I remember back when you were here with me
How you’ve made my world complete
But now I’m left alone
Ruki smiled contentedly, fingers interlaced with Reita’s as they strolled through a park, flowers blossoming around them, soaked in the essence of their love. They were walking… and walking, but they weren’t in the park anymore. Ruki frowned as he observed his surroundings, the taunting shadows of the room unnerving him.
“Aki, where are we? What’s happening? I’m scared…” Ruki whimpered, clinging on to Reita’s toned frame. The latter stayed silent, but Ruki could feel the change happening; the biting cold that was fast dominating every inch of the other’s body, a sorrowful smile planted on his lips as he continued to gaze at Ruki. And then it happened. Reita started bleeding; rivers of blood pouring from his every pore as Ruki stared on, horrified.
“No… No, don’t!! Akira!!!” But even as he held on, his lover was fast disappearing in his arms, fragmented pieces dissolved into crimson streams, seeping through his fingers, uniting with the reddened waves he didn’t notice his feet were soaked in.
Why did you tear my heart apart
You said you’d love me from the start
All those painful things you’ve put me through
But I’m still loving you
Ruki gasped as he jolted upright, cold sweat dripping profusely down the planes of his body as he swiped as his teary eyes with a relieved sigh. That nightmare… was too vivid… Akira… Ruki fumbled with the pads of his phone, desperation in his actions to reach the elder; to hear his velvet tones, to feel secured, safe with the knowledge that he was still there… still alive… as long as he was still alive… that was enough for him. But the monotonous ringing with which he was answered provided none of the assurance he needed to ease his frantic heart. I… I need to see him. Ruki slid his window open noiselessly, swinging his agile body over the veranda as he landed in a trained crouch with a dull thud. Sparing a brief glance to ensure his endeavour had gone unnoticed, he slipped away into the shadows of the night, an ominous ring of fear lingering at the core of his being, resident to the insecurities of his heart.
For what I really feel inside
My eyes won't let me hide
Every time I see you they start to cry
Cause this time my love it could mean goodbye
Don't say goodnight
Ruki tapped his foot impatiently against the stone tiles, eyebrows furrowing suspiciously as his knocking invoked no reply. He moved to the back of the house, to the porch where he used to spend sleepless nights in Reita’s warm embrace- just simply holding him, as he mused about the mysteries of the night; the twinkling dusts and Cyclops’s eye- and he gasped; a pathetic excuse from his uncooperative throat for a scream. Those memories, pleasantries he vowed never to forget, were unworthy rivals of this. Reita sat limply on the floor, life percolating in tainted streams into the carpet. And then he was there, desperately pounding on the sliding doors, rivulets whipping down his cheek as he screamed; screamed a thousand I love you’s and Don’t do this, Don’t leave me… Screamed till his voice was raw, his knuckles torn and bleeding. But he couldn’t; couldn’t get to him, couldn’t save him.
“…Don’t leave me… alone…” He pleaded, hands trailing crimson waves as he slid to his knees in resignation, his gaze unwavering, sepia interlocked with chocolate. But something had changed. That blank look was gone, recognition seeping into his eyes as he padded to the door, hands reaching out, gently caressing the cold glass where Ruki’s face was. Ruki’s eyes fluttered shut, leaning in; into his touch, his comforting warmth; a precious moment frozen in time and he wished that it was all over, that he could lose himself in this bliss forever. Then it was gone, the chill of the glass arousing him. The remnants of crystal droplets fell from his lashes as he glanced up; those eyes meeting his, the ones filled with love and affection; filled with his heart, his soul… Those distinctive eyes that solely belonged to him. Ruki lifted his lips in a wobbly smile, understanding the hidden words behind that silent exchange.
Smile for me… my love.
And Reita smiled back, features smoothed in tranquillity. Ruki felt his fears and worries melt, stripped away by that tender smile and he knew; knew what he wanted to do, what he had to do. He mouthed three words; words so simple and yet holding so much meaning, so much love in them.
“Wait for me.”
Because I’m not going to let you go alone; I promised too, to follow you everywhere you went, even if it’s to the ends of the earth.
The light you shine into the night
You take away my fright
And for everytime I see you I try…
What I try to say is stay with me tonight
