It's really interesting, your read on the ending. I didn't consciously think of it as Auron losing his defiance, I just thought WANNA WRITE AURON AS SIN, HOW CAN I MAKE THAT HAPPEN? Though I did time Jecht's death right around the time that in-game Auron starts expressing his doubts. But after Jecht's disappearance, Auron's loyalty to Braska overrides any of his doubts. They could have run off together and lived happily ever after, raising Yuna together in domestic bliss, I suppose. (STOP THAT IMAGE, BRAIN.) But I was pretty determined to have Auron-as-Sin, and to make the end totally depressing. Funnily enough, I never read that deeply into my own writing and it always surprises me when people point out things I didn't intentionally write. I like it though, that a piece of writing can come into its own life like that.
P.S. Do you have your old fic up anywhere? I couldn't find it on your new journal. It was excellent and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss it.
