Right, so:
Among the other nuggets of Big News of late are 1) I have spent the summer thus far on an island off the Rhode Island coast, working selling fly-fishing equipment (of which, in honesty, I know precious little) and kayaks (of which I know slightly more), and hanging out with the Notorious D.A.D., which has been big fun. 2) I am moving from the friendly confines of Brooklyn to the wilds of small-town Illinois, at least for a year.
I’m actually reasonably frightened. I’ve never lived so far from friends and, I’m embarrassed to say, I’ve never lived west of Amsterdam Avenue. I will miss Brooklyn, although certainly with the exception of alternate side of the street parking.
I was back in my old Williamsburg stomps this past week, which was fun, although it did remind me of why I ran screaming in the first place. At the end of the day, I just don’t have the energy to be that hip. Still, I got to see old friends and art, and to have a beer or two, so I have no complaints.
Still, the event itself was pretty cool -- it was an art show made up exclusively of pillows, called something like "Woodland Creatures from Outer Space." I bought one, and now I can sleep on a silkscreen of rows and rows of little raccoons, one of which has a space helmet.
I have enjoyed being out on the island, though, and it's been a good precurser to small town life (although it's a whole lot prettier here than in Galesburg, Il., and I'm a little freaked out to go from living in the middle of the ocean to the middle of the plains.
Today, I'm kind of in a bad mood. I'm tired, becase I lost track of time last night poking around in the moonlight in the bay. It was a full-tilt beautiful night -- wading in the little cove at the end of our road set of little tracers of luminsecent creatures in the water so I had magical foot fireworks with every step. Pretty neat, although I'm beat today, and a little late for work.
So that's what's up with me at the moment, at least.
