Purchased and just finished watching High School Musical 3 right now. I squealed, I laughed, I cried. I'm a 25 year old person whom, in the past, never really had a predilection for anything bubblegum pop related, but for some reason, absolutely adores this particular Disney franchise.
"Why?" You may ask. Well, it's simple. Or maybe not so simple.
In a world filled with hatred, violence,
racist cartoons poorly presented as political satire, and just negativity in general; sometimes it's nice to be immersed in a world where the biggest problem is telling your friends about a musical you've auditioned for, or which college you can or cannot decide to go to. Where love, no matter how corn-ball and cliche it is, will overcome all obstacles. That even places as separatist as American high schools, can overcome the strict clique barriers and all be friends, all find some sort of common ground.
Yes, it's banal, trite, surrealistic, the music is appalling, the storyline is hackneyed at best, and it's absolute proof that the people at Disney are convinced that the average tween/teen is completely unaware of reality. But, at the end of the ridiculously long and cringe-worthy list, these movies and songs make me smile. Make me want to be the all American teenager, even though I'm in my mid-twenties and from Britain.
"Why?" is the question: "Because it's damn fun." is the answer.
Or maybe it's because there are a lot of pretty people, with awesome dancing, and lots of sparkles. XD!
Okay, I'm done.
P.S. (RE: the cartoon) I'm totally with you on this one Rev. Al Sharpton.
P.P.S. I am in love with Keith Olbermann.
