I had better get back into the habit of posting in this journal before school starts again or I'll never update it once school schedules start taking up my time. Had a great summer, ended up travelling all over the country for the first month, then back here for the second, to relax a bit and prepare for the new semester. Stayed with my parents for about a week, then Amy invited me to stay at her place in London for a week; then a friend from the Ministry asked if I could house-sit her cottage in the Lake District for a couple weeks, as she was off to America on some business. Meant living out of a suitcase for a month, but that wasn't too bad.
Loved being back in London for a while, though. I never actually lived there, but when I worked at the Ministry I got used to doing things on my lunch breaks or after work - going to concerts, plays, shopping, etc. While I'd never want to live in London, I have missed it - I haven't been in Muggle London in nearly a year (just a couple quick trips to Diagon Alley), as it's just easier to Apparate to Edinburgh when I need to go to a big (Muggle) city. I even missed the crowdedness of it, the noises. Anyway, Amy and I had a blast, did some shopping, went to a couple concerts. Best of all, though, was going to the Globe Theatre. I hadn't had the chance to go yet, and wouldn't you know, they're performing my favourite play this year: Hamlet. I got chills, watching the play in an open theatre, the same way the audience would have watched it the first time it was performed... It was absolutely brilliant. Heaven for a history geek like me.
Anyway, came back to Hogwarts in early August, and have been rattling around on my own, mostly. The silence was nice, but I admit it's also a pleasure to have more of the teachers coming back now, getting ready for a new school year. The silence could be a bit wearing at times.
Though of course in a couple days' time, when the Hogwarts Express chugs into Hogsmeade, I may be looking back on those quiet days with nostalgia. :-)
