Who: Sora and Naminé
Where: Same park as before XD
When: Yesterday?
Why: Naminé fixes Sora's memories for later plot purposes! =D Oh, and there's a bit of crack about Axel/Roxas and Marluxia's Pink Scythe of Soom (TM). But that's not the important part.
Spoilers for Chain of Memories. Thought I'd mention that so I don't get bitched at for it again. =D
Sora sighed. School these days hadn't been much, just the normal... school routine. Go to school, stay in class, try to pay attention, go back to Yukito's house when the day was over. Maybe go to the park once in a while, like he had done now. That'd pretty much been his schedule since he'd transfered to Mugenjou. 'I wonder where Riku and Kairi are right now,' he thought, lying down on the bench he was sitting on, looking up to the sky. 'What they're doing... who they're with... I miss them.'
Naminé walked by, buried in the latest Yuki Eiri novel. Catching a glimpse of hedgehog-spiked hair out of the corner of her eye, she lowered the book. "Sora! Hi!"
The brunette moved slightly as someone called out his name. "Sora! Hi!" came a female voice from somewhere nearby. Sora sat up and looked around; Naminé was in front of him, a book in her hand.
"Oh," smiled Sora. "Hey, Naminé. What's up?"
"Not a whole lot. I kinda gave up on trying to cheer up oneesan, so I thought I'd go out while the weather's still nice. You?"
"Same here." Sora waved his hand nonchalantly. "Not really much to do around here. I came here because Yukito's out right now and I didn't want to stay in the apartment."
"Mind if I sit here?" Naminé hovered awkwardly by the bench.
Final Arcana: Sora paused as the blonde asked... 'It'll be okay,' he thought self-consciously. 'Nothing wrong with sitting with a girl, right?'
"Not at all," he finally said, scooting over a little to allow the girl to sit next to him.
"Thanks." She sat down. "Actually, I had to get out. Laxchine was just being depressing, you know? I couldn't draw anything happy with her sitting there moping around... I'm sad for her, but, well, light. This isn't like her."
"Oh... I can understand. I've had situations like that when Riku wouldn't stop sulking," said Sora, a slight smile on his face as he remembered one such incident. Turning back to Naminé, however, he continued, "What's happened to your sister, by the way? Why is she depressed in the first place?"
"She broke up with her boyfriend," Naminé explained, "Axel, I mean- have you met him? Anyway, I don't know the full story. He pulled a really mean stunt for April Fools' though... I think that's what's really gotten to her."
"Ah..." replied Sora... not quite understanding why Laxchine would get so worked up over Axel. Shaking his head, he said, "I'm sorry that happened to her... and, hm. Axel..." He stopped for a while, thinking. Did he ever meet Axel? ... Which brought him back to the dance. Ah, yes, the Valentine's Dance... and what Naminé had said when she drank the spiked punch. "... Naminé..." he said slowly, looking downward. "About... that stuff you said to me at the dance... was that all true?"
Naminé nodded. "Like I said before... yeah. I know it's gotta be hard to believe, especially since I was drunk, but... yeah, it's all true."
His gaze still downcast, he said, "... So... me, you, Laxchine, Axel... we all knew each other before, from this place called Castle Oblivion... but you went and changed our memories so we wouldn't remember... and now here we are." Looking back up at her, he asked, "... Why'd you go through all the trouble of doing that?"
"Well, the Laxchine and Axel here aren't really the same ones... neither did Masaaki," Naminé explained. "So they don't remember to begin with. As for you, I had to. It was part of the process of undoing what I did before." She sighed. "I didn't want to, if that's any help?"
"Oh..." Finding out about this... made Sora feel distant from the rest of the world. So, there really was about a whole six months erased from his memory? A whole stretch of his life gone? "If you... did something with my memories again... is there a way you can give me back those memories while still keeping the ones I have now?"
Naminé shook her head. "I don't know. I might be able to try...?"
"... So there's no way you could guarantee it?" He thought for a while... was this worth the risk?
"There's never any guarantees." She wanted to scream at him to say yes, but this was his memory and his decision.
"Well..." Sora started out slowly. "... It's... worth a try...?" He looked at her again. "And, I mean, if it doesn't work... we could always try something else, right?"
"We can," Naminé said. "It might take a while though..."
Sora smiled, albeit quite sadly. "I'm willing to wait, Naminé, however long it takes. I just... want to remember."
"Okay then. I'll get started whenever you're ready."
After a while of slightly awkward silence, Sora said, "... Well, what are we waiting for? Let's... uhh... go?"
Naminé whipped out her Omnipresent Sketchbook of Doom (TM). =D
Sora glanced at the sketchbook curiously. "... What's that supposed to do?" he asked, serious!Sora gone and normal clueless!Sora taking over.
"It's part of how my power works," Naminé explained. "Also works well for slashy plot devices to confuse your o- nevermind."
"I... guess I can understand the part about it being your power... but... slashy plot devices?" Cue nervous look at Naminé here.
"Uh. Long story. It wasn't about you anyway. Well, not really. Um... just close your eyes, okay?"
"O-okay..." Following the girl's directions, he shut his eyes. He... just had a feeling he could trust her. After all, she... helped him before, didn't she?
She got to under-described-because-DC-is-uncreative-today work. Adding memories was actually a little easier than replacing them.
Sora had by then falling into a deep slumber, memories coming back to him in dreams. There--a crossroads; no, one road. He walked further along it, only to be confronted by a huge castle. 'So... it really did happen, then," he thought, memories playing back in his head as more and more of the events of Castle Oblivion were returned to him.
"I hope you still like me when I'm done," Naminé whispered, sketching an image of the moment when it was revealed to Sora what she'd done to his memory the first time.
Now a recollection of Naminé came into his mind as his dream progressed. She... looked so sad. And then she explained what he had done to his memories. 'She... wasn't lying...'
Almost done now. She drew Marluxia with his scythe and pretty pretty flowers, getting ready for battle... well, getting ready to get his ass kicked and she couldn't believe she doubted it at the time.
Now he was faced with a man, armed with the power of... flowers. Oh. Oh wow. That was nice, Sora thought. He'd have to fight a flower guy. How fun.
... But then he reconsidered as he felt himself fly into a wall after getting hit by that scythe.
They could all make fun of Masaaki when this was over. Not that Laxchine didn't do so on a regular basis, but hey, flowers~!
Naminé still recalled being as frightened as anybody when he summoned the Nobody/ship, though. Even though its swords *were* bright pink.
... Sora couldn't believe he'd almost gotten his ass kicked by a guy with flower power. Hmm. The pink... maybe that was why he had gotten owned. Yeah. He'd gotten too distracted by the pink. ... Let's go with that.
And here was where they got to the end of the story, at least for a little while. Naminé made sure to engrave the memory of his promise to her extra clearly.
Wishful thinking? Yeah, but it was better than nothing.
Sora's eyes flickered open. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. "Wow... uhh... was that all?" he said. Something then... made a sort of a ping in his mind, in a way. "O-oh..." he said, turning a faint shade of red as that last memory played back in his head, as if his mind had TiVo and the omnipresent person behind the screen had taken a bathroom break and missed the best part of the show. "T-thank you, Naminé..."
"You're welcome," Naminé said, eyes downcast.
Sora cast a wary look at the girl. "Hey... you okay?"
Naminé nodded. "I'm fine."
The boy could see she didn't really want to talk about it anymore, so he desisted. "Just... wow," he said, changing the subject. "Can't believe it actually worked..." Looking at her, he smiled a genuine smile--not one of his normal cheesy ones--and said, "Thanks again, Naminé."
"I'm kinda surprised it worked too," Naminé admitted. "That was kind of a rush job... So you still like me? I mean, what I did before wasn't very nice..."
"Wha?" He raised an eyebrow at her. "Of course I still like you! I could understand; Masaa--I mean, Marluxia was forcing you, right? You had no choice..."
Naminé finally smiled. "Thanks."
Sora returned the grin. "You're welcome."
Naminé packed her sketchbook away. "Looks like it's getting late..."
Sora looked up at the sky; indeed, it was starting to darken. "You're right..." Turning his gaze back towards her, he said, "Well... I'm gonna get going now; Yukito might start worrying where I am. And... um..." He looked down at his shoes, rubbing the back of his head. "Thanks again for everything today, Naminé."
"You're welcome," Naminé said awkwardly. "It was just the right thing to do..."
"Well... umm... see ya later." Smiling one last time at Naminé, Sora started to walk out of the park, and back to the apartment Yukito had invited him to stay in.
"See you." Naminé waved and walked away in the other direction.
Final Arcana: [AKUROKU SCRIBBLE! XD]
CrimsonAbsol: ((d00d, we need a Roxas. <3 I'd even take away Axel's title as the Only Straight Guy In Mugenjou for that.))
