Surfin' Bali!

Back from a 4 nite stay at Bali. Stayed at the Contiki Bali resort for youths between 18 to *ahem* 35.
My virgin trip to Bali... and also my first time throwing myself against the waves of Legian Beach in Bali... all in the name of surfing!

After being greeted by a somewhat funky ventilation shaft and clogged up showerhead (it eventually got fixed) in the bathroom of my room at Contiki Bali, I settled in comfortably to a very friendly resort with my 3 companions.

Our first day of surfing was a blast! Most of us managed to balance on the board right on the 1st lesson. Sadly the sea wasn't as cooperative on our 2nd & 3rd (also our last) day. We were paddling against huge relentless waves just to get out to sea. Bruised & battered by the strong tides, we were flipped over several times; force fed dirty seawater and became quickly exhausted. Our instructors even admitted it was a lousy time to surf. But then again in between their lessons they would be nonchantly demonstrating how to ride the waves... even in such turbulent tides! Amazingly cooooooooooooool.

Despite the lack of direct sunlight hitting our skins, those who didn't slap on sunblock on our first day (me!) found ourselves relatively burnt by the 2nd day. The peeling started on my 4th day... thankfully the worst is now over!

On the last night, a half day shopping spree saw me buying my first couple of sleeveless tees (I'm still too skinny to appear in tank tops!), a couple of tees, a couple of trunks and a pair of board shorts. All cheap cheap!

Oh Bali... an amazing experience.. I have a feeling I haven't discovered even a quarter of what it really offers. I'd need to go back for more!
