Puppies

Once upon a time, there was an old woman who played Ingress. Now one day, she was driving down the highway chasing down just one more portal when her heart stopped at the sight of a puppy, starving on the side of the road. Skin and bones and very very young, she could not pass by.

She stopped the car and asked her companion to fetch it in. He carefully approached it and discovered it was not alone. At the end of the collection, they had 5 in all. Four of them huddled together happily in the back seat, very clearly comfortable with humans. The fifth, was gently carried in her companion's lap as it had been damaged by something big and its leg was clearly broken.

She was not going to let them starve slowly by the side of the road. Knowing that the government run dog shelter would likely kill the one with the broken leg, she reasoned that it would be a better death than starvation. But that evening, they were not open, so she took them to the 24/7 dog hospital where she got them flea baths and shots and...strange thing to do for someone who was simply planning on handing them over to the shelter. But she was a complicated person and sometimes, she just did what felt right.

She told her daughter about the puppies and shared pictures. Her daughter felt for these puppies from hundreds of miles away and told her friends. Her daughter's friends brainstormed and came up with brilliant ideas which soon became real and money was raised, the puppies grew healthy and strong and are alive and well today.

This coming Thursday, we will see how the story ends. If the temperature in Puerto Rico can stay under 85 degrees, we have a chance that the pups will make it to Boston that evening to be united with their forever families.

Stay tuned...
