The Hamster Battle Royale

The day we knew would come at last, has come at last. We knew, at last, this day would come and come it has, at last.

Today is the day the my big hamster attacked my little hamster and left her a bloody mess: shaking, screaming and sprinting around the cage with very obvious Hamster Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Back Story: My two hamsters, Ka-chan (who will henceforth be know as Jabba the Hamster) and Chi-chan (who will henceforth be known as... Chi-chan) have been squabbling for a long time. I read that play fighting is normal with dwarf hamsters but I noticed it had been escalating and was wondering if I should separate them. Then it calmed down so I decided they were just playing. I even watched one fight and it just looked like a battle for dominance, no actual touching tho. But today I came home and Chi-chan was lying on her back in the shavings and squealing intermittently, Jabba went up the tunnel to the second 'floor' and I gave her a little fish and when I offered one to Chi-chan she FLIPPED out and ran like a bat out of hell to the opposite side of the cage. It was then that I saw her entire back side was covered in blood. Yeah, freaked out a little. Removed Jabba, put her in a ball and onto the floor, grabbed my keys and headed to Ozu to get another cage.

All the way there I berated myself for ignoring domestic violence in my own home! I was ENABLING Jabba to TERRORIZE teeny tiny innocent Chi-chan. I feel like such a bad mother!

All seems to be ok now. I put PTSD girl in the new cage and right now she's hiding out in her new little house. All the blood is dry and I don't see a cut so hopefully it's just something little that happened to bleed a lot... if she dies I'm gonna be PISSED, and sad.
Jabba is going a little nuts running around the cage, moving tissue paper, climbing the walls, swinging from the bars on the ceiling (not kidding), jumping from the highest points in the cage...not sure what to make of it. Don't know if she's celebrating her new freedom or looking for Chi-chan so she can inflict more bloody wounds. (Don't worry Chi-chan, you're safe now) Jabba is nuts. I love her because I realize she's just a helpless rodent with no reasoning skills. She can't help that she's dominant.

So yeah, now I have TWO hamster cages to clean! At least there will be no more screaming from Chi-chan. Unless she starts having night terrors.... I wonder if they make Xanax for hamsters....
