No Matter What, I'll Always Just Be Me
Today I had a realization. One I've come close to many times but never fully actualized.
When I think of my future self I see myself with a career, a home, a husband and children. I always imagine my future self as a wise, composed, organized woman who is in control of every situation.
What I realized today is that I will never suddenly morph into my ideal future self. I will always just be me, Morgan, learning how to cope with different life situations.
Getting married won't make me all of the sudden enjoy housekeeping or cooking. Nor will it make my relationship with my husband trouble free and smooth sailing until happily ever after.
When I become a teacher I will not magically become organized, good at making bulletin boards or able to handle any situation that my students throw at me.
When I become a mother I will not become serene and divine like the Virgn Mary with perfect beautiful children and a calm angelic demeanor.
For the rest of my life I'm just going to be me, learning to be a grown up, a life partner, a career woman and a mother. And it will be hard work too, probably some of the hardest work I'll ever do. But without a doubt it will be the most rewarding.
I'm a little sad that my ideal adult self does not actually exist nor will she ever. However, I am pretty happy I will always be me.
