OK, look.

Lee moved away. Mid-summer, Lee just up and moved to Annapolis, right? He's got his great codemonkey job, and he likes it. But he's NOT AROUND ANYMORE! And, like, he doesn't really post about me in his lj, anymore, either.

So, my lj is going to be one of two things:
* Dormant: I don't post much, I just comment. Like, before.

or

* Active: As in, I might actually post about my life some.

I went to the Society for Personality and Social Psychology Annual Conference, in Austin, TX, this past weekend. I hung out with Megin, whom I haven't seen in ages, and shared a room with her and Steve, a grad student in CMU's psych department, who I had a class with a while back.

Megin and I made a list, of what to do while in Austin.

1) Socialize and network with professors I've applied to work with.
2) Attend interesting symposia and poster sessions.
3) Mess with Texas.
4) Punch David Buss (He's an evolutionary psychologist, and Megin hates evolutionary psychology).

So.

1) Spoke with Norbert Schwarz, who I applied to work with at UMichigan for their Social Psychology Ph.D. program. He said that I am totally shortlisted, and that I should know whether I'm accepted within two weeks. Note, just for my own ego, that they're the #1 ranked social psychology program in the country. Whee! BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! I also spoke to Sara Hodges, from the UOregon Psychology Department, whom I also applied to work with, and SHE said that I TOTALLY GOT INTO THEIR SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY PH.D. PROGRAM! And that my "formal notice" is forthcoming!

I am so cool I am so cool I am so cool.

I am going to grad school next year. I may not know where, but I am TOTALLY GOING SOMEWHERE.

Michigan and Oregon are, and have always been, my top two choices. Dr. Hodges and Dr. Schwarz are, and have been, my top two professors-I-want-to-work-with.

In other news, I saw Dan Gilbert around a lot, but never actually got up the nerve to talk to him. Harvard's soc psy Ph.D. is probably my third choice, but if I get in, I'll totally be out there visiting to make sure it doesn't actually want to become my top choice. He does excellent work in affective forecasting. It's just that I had emailed and communicated with Dr. Hodges and Dr. Schwarz so much, so I felt it much easier to go up and talk to them. While Dacher Keltner was there to give talks, and was pretty kickass, I'm not really sure what I would want to work with if I got into Berkeley's Social/Personality Ph.D. program. Neither people from Northwestern or UChicago were there that I wanted to work with.

In other news, Oregon students looked happy, and so did Michigan students. UChicago students looked stressed, Berkeley students looked relaxed and happy, and Northwestern students looked fine, too. Harvard students looked pretty cool as well. So, yeah. It'll be a hard choice...oh, yes. A hard choice. BUT I HAVE A CHOICE TO MAKE!

2) Maybe, if I'm really excited and people care, I'll post about the symposia I went to. They were, in fact, interesting.

3) We made fun of Texas some, and talked about messing with it...and then we ended up miles from downtown at a theatre that was sold out of tickets, and I had to walk a mile in my shoes, which were killing me, because the left one is too small, so I friggin' have a near-stress-fractured left leg, and CRAZY BLISTERS. Moral of the story: Don't mess with Texas. Texas will mess back.

4) We did not see David Buss. Perhaps it's just as well...

...and now I'm going to go to sleep, much more relaxed about my future, and with a fairly good sense of career and place-in-the-world.
