Trip to Cumbria

Last weekend, me and Dave went up to Cumbria to visit my family. Every year, there's an agricultural show, it's been going for 169 years. Dave, living in a city his whole life, is a big fan of the countryside and farming and all that goes with it. He watches Countryfile every Sunday and gets out for walks as often as he can. So he was very keen to get up for the show, especially when he heard that it's sponsored by Jennings beer and they had a beer tent there. So we drove up the 200 mile journey just for that really haha!

On Friday, we all set out to complete some Wainwright walks. There are 214 of them and it's Harrison's mission to complete them all as his Uncle Steve bought him a map for Christmas where you can tick them all off as you go. So on Friday we completed three; Lord's Seat,  Broom Fell and Barf. Me, Dave, Harrison, my dad, my sister and my two nieces. The weather was lovely and we got some great photos. Unfortunately, I've forgotten how to post photos here.

Speaking of photos, I've started a new Instagram account to document our Wainwright bagging, as well as any other countryside walking we might do. If you want to follow me, it's @countrysidewalking. My personal Instagram account is @shellie12101 but it's set to private on account of me posting photos of Harrison on there, so you'll have to send a request for that one.

On Saturday we went to the show. Again, the weather was great, I was so pleased with how lucky we  had been. Harrison thought it was great; he had never seen chickens, ducks, cows or sheep before and he was really excited to see them, especially when he got to stroke some of the cows :o)

We obviously had some beer as well, and I couldn't believe how cheap it was! At a show like that, you would expect it to be about £5 per pint, but we got two x 4 pint jugs for £10 each, and we were able to keep the jugs as well! Bargain! It started raining just as we were about to leave, and it RAINED so hard! Weirdly, there were some hen parties there (strange place for a hen party) and one of them stole a gazebo from one of the stalls and were walking around it as a rain shelter. When we were leaving, there was a wedding party just arriving! Why a wedding party would want to walk round a muddy field in the rain, after the show has finished, I have no idea...

That evening, the rain had stopped, and we had a BBQ, which dad somehow managed to light even though the torrential rain had been pouring down on it, kindling, charcoal and all. Fire skillz. Mam and bought Harrison an early birthday cake and we all sang to him, much to his delight. His face lit up when he heard his name :o)

On Sunday morning we went to visit my grandparents for an hour before walking up to a local pub for Sunday lunch. Every time we go, the portions are huge the food is delicious. So that was a nice end to the weekend before we drove back down home again.
