Happy Birthday Steven. We raised glasses of champagne to you today, and had a beautiful cake. It was a tiny group -- just those I could pull in at the last minute, since I've been spending all my free time at the hospital with Mom. Still, it was great to be with four other people who knew you, remembered you and missed you, especially on such a milestone birthday.
I called your mom and passed the phone around to everyone so they could say hi. Your parents are holding steady -- your dad got cataract surgery today. He's going to have to lay off the golf for a few days, but then he'll have some pretty sharp vision going. He'll kill it on the golf course then. Your mom sounded very happy to talk to everyone. She actually told P. that he needed to find me a nice Christian boyfriend. So hilarious, since P. is the most un-Christian guy. But I mean that as a compliment -- he's got the heart of an angel. Anyway, she meant well, and it was just so nice to be gathered in your honor and talking to the one who birthed you. We all love you very much.
I can't believe you're 40. Or would have been, anyway. I miss you so.
