Here's the icon tutorial I said I'd post today. :D

01] I start off with my boring old base, and prepared it. To prepare it I screened + sharpened.
02] SEL. COL.
Reds: -100, 100, 100, 0
Yellows: 100, -36, -100, 0
Neutrals: 50, -17, -26, 5
03] BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST
Contrast: +36
04] CURVES
Red: 126, 152
Green: 135, 103
Blue: 74, 58
05] New layer > fill with a light aqua blue. (9ae4e7) Set to colour burn 100%. (this is optional. see if it works for you.)
06] Merge visible.
07] Duplicate new merged layer, set to screen 100%. (this is also optional.)
08] Merge visible again.
09] New blank layer. Don't do anything to it just yet.
10] Go to Custom Shapes, select a shape you like. I chose the birdie. ^__^
11] Set the opacity of your shape to 70%.
12] Merge visible.
13] Select the elliptical marquee tool and make a circle around whatever you want to show up in your icon.
14] Select >> inverse.
15] Filter >> Blur >> Radial blur >> settings: 28, spin, good.
DONEEE~ yay! :]
