NQT Leadership

I had an interesting day today. It was my NQT Leadership course from the Specialist School and Academies trust... basically the statistic is that 70% of all secondary school head teachers are 45-60 and will be retiring soon, so if they get us as we just enter the profession and sow the seeds of leadership we might be headteachers of the future. Lots of interesting stuff about Personalising Learning which isn't what the media make it out to be at all... its really just making sure each kid gets some attention and that you tailor the courses you offer to suit the needs of individuals... I got lots of good ideas I hope to use in my own teaching.

But it made me think, the school I'm at doesn't seem to be going anywhere... Thinking back to my interview I was naive and it was late in the year and I was pretty desperate to secure a post, but the Head doesn't seem to have any vision or innovative ideas, and the kids are shitty, which is in part due to the lack of behaviour policy and innovation in teaching, and there is only so much little old me can do to change that. So do I stay there because I've gone to quite a bit of trouble to build my relationships ( only six months worth though...) with pupils and staff, but then the department is disorganised and bitchy, and the school is almost failing...

I like the type of school it is, I don't want a white middle class environment, I'd much rather work with inner city-deprived area type kids, but we had speakers from a couple of city academies who were really trying lots of things and seeing great results, with the type of kids I am working with now.

Or do I just ride it out, get easy promotions because I get on with the head of dept and most other people don't and wait for the head to change or us to get put into special measures?
