In which the nursery is complete... but there are still a few jobs left to do around the house...

Yesterday afternoon we completed the nursery. I was surprised really because it didn't take us too long. We started just after lunch about 1.30, and everything was finished by about 4.30. Zac's dad called over in the morning to drop off the cot, matteress and dresser which had been stored at their house since we ordered them as we just didn't have space for the boxes. We cleared out the last few boxes of stuff (mostly onto the floor in here... and that's most of what needs sorting out today). I vacuumed the floor and we built the furniture. My new chair came up from downstairs and so did all the baby stuff that had been hiding all over the house awaiting a real place to live in the nursery. I've been washing most of the new clothes and bedding as we've bought it, so I was able to put sheets on the cot as soon as we'd built it! The blankets I've knitted look lovely!

My first cloth nappies arrived on Saturday too... I bought one dream-dri pop in and one bamboo pop-in. They look really easy to use, practically shaped like a normal disposable nappy so probably no more hassle to use. They have adjustable poppwers on them, so reckon to fit from birth to potty training size. They feel really soft as well, which looks comfy for alittle bottom! I sent away for a pack from the council too... they are really trying to encourage you to use real nappies to cut down on waste sent to landfill. The pack from them comes with a bucket and I think 3 other different types, so we'll be able to try them out and decide which are best, before splashing out on a full set.

So I'm all set... I have nappies just waiting for a tiny bottom to come and wear them and a lovely nursery just waiting for a little Lentil to come and try it out! When I went to Bumps and Babies last week all the other ladies who'd been at our antenatal class had given up work before Christmas and were totally bored... I'm not feeling like that yet. I had a really good week last week. Monday I didn't do much, Tuesday I met Vicky for lunch, Wednesday I went down to Cubs in the evening, Thursday was Bumps and Babies and we went for lunch afterwards, Friday Liz came down with baby Daniel and I baked carrot cake.

So what do I need to get sorted this week...

  • Finish vacuuming the nursery Zac was impatient to build the furniture, so I didn't do the side by the radiator properly
  • Fold clothes at the side of the bed
  • Put on a load of washing
  • Dry the dark load of washing that was done this weekend
  • Clear my bedside table
  • Fill up the new bedroom shelves with perfume, jewellery and books
  • ... thus unpacking the big green box...
  • Sort out which books are going to live on the shelf downstairs, and which are off to the charity shop
  • Move all the computer games and CD's onto the shelves in the office.
  • Sort out school paperwork now I can reach the ringbinders it needs to go into
  • Write my Year 13 reports
  • Sort out iTunes on the desktop PC... this has taken a long time, but I'm working on it!
  • Plug my iPod into the desktop PC to finally update my podcasts
  • Buy the Eliza Doolittle album and put that on my iPod along with other music suitable for birth...
  • Check hospital bag is all organised
  • Charge camera batteries
  • Have a baby... this may be wishful thinking, not due until Saturday!
