So yeah... the student takes up so much of my time that I'm really struggling to get my own work done.
I have to mark a sample of books up to date so our head of department can check my marking. I have to finish my Year 8 reports because they were too brief (I was too knackered from a trainee day of doom, to really sit down and do them properly) I have to improve my Year 12 reports because some of them were brief... but they were all the same length!!!! Arrrgh! I have to mark my Year 12's homework for the work sampling. I need to mark my Year 10 tests. I have an assembly to write, plan and rehearse for Thursday to include all 30 of my form members. I'm being observed on Monday and I have a whole coursework task to plan for my Year 11's (that needs to be complete and marked before EAster holidays... and we need to do two in that time) Oh and teach a full day of lessons today. And the last double needs to be pretty special since the trainee will be observing me.
Its been a pretty tough week with Zac. We had a melt down last Wednesday when I couldn't get across the bedroom for all the dirty laundry. I don't mind helping out at all... but when nothing gets done and he spends all day doing nothing or reading the papers... that's not exactly how it is supposed to work.
We had a pretty serious talk and there were plenty of tears, Saturday morning was a tough one, when he realised he had forgotten to book the van for airsoft and really couldn't handle the stress... there was shouting and screaming and jumping and throwing things. It all worked out in the end, but really meant he wasn't in a good state of mind for his first appointment at the job centre. He came back from the job centre with a little piece of paper saying "I need to look at 8 job websites this week and apply for 2 jobs". I've been making these lists of realistic time scaled targets with him (That teacher training comes in all over the place) for weeks... and nothing ever comes of it, so it hurt me when he thought it was the best idea since sliced bread when a stranger suggested it. I suppose only good can come of this turning over a new leaf. He genuinely does seem to be more motivated this last week. Our house gets inspected today, So we've both been on a total tidying mission. He's away this weekend with the Scouts, which will be nice, in that I'll get some Jenn Time... but equally I want to spend more time with this new and improved boy.
