I'm really dating myself here. It's a hard one to answer. I loved disco and probably Donna Summer was my favourite. However, Hotel California by The Eagles was such an incredible song to me. I remember putting in so much effort to learn the words so I could sing it at any time. Mainly I just remember loving music and dancing all by myself whenever I could. hehe. . .here is a fact I've never told anyone. . .I'd dance all by myself when babysitting after the children I was babysitting were asleep. It was as much to stay awake as to just dance but I did enjoy it.
As I think about it, I can't pin it down. . .I loved the California sound of Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Heart. I loved disco/dance. As I got a few years older I really started to like the classics such as Led Zeppelin, the Who, Elton John. . .OH!! I remember who I first started listening too as a kid!! Helen Reddy! My mother owned that record and I'd play it over and over and over. . .at 7 I could belt out "I am woman, hear me roar!" My feminist training started early ;)
In the early 80's I loved KISS, Adam Ant, Stray Cats, Thompson Twins, Foreigner, to name a few. My favourite song of all time is from the 80's. . .Kim Mitchell's "All We Are". Kim Mitchell is Canadian and that album was his second solo album I think after he left Max Webster. Akimbo Alogo is a fantasic CD.
In the 80's I moved from mainstream pop to what at the time was Alternative. . .discovered Pink Floyd, and a ton of other songs. I still like the more offbeat stuff that only gets played on the radio stations once in a while.
