No Country For Old Men is one hell of a picture. It's great to see the Coens back in top form, although this is easily their most sinister work to date. I'm still haunted by it. Be warned, this film is almost the antithesis to super-fun crazy crime films like The Departed. It's a rumination on the progression of crime and its effects on humanity and society. It's a masterpiece of tension and a lesson in the use of suspenseful silences. It's a testament to filmmaking craft. Hitchcock would have been proud. Or jealous. Javier Bardiem's Anton Chigurgh is maybe the scariest on-screen bastard I've seen since the Tyrannosaurus in Jurassic Park, or at least Alex de Large. If anyone ever calls me "friendo" I'm getting the hell away from them.
Past couple of weeks have been a little rough personally. Mostly this year I've been able to keep myself ahead of the bad feeling but recently it's snuck up on me. Where's my Bat Spray when I need it?
