Only Rock n' Roll

But I liked it. The Stones were in fine form tonight. Yes, they are older than dirt and it's astonishing that Keith Richards can even walk, let alone play a guitar solo... but it was good stuff nonetheless. I'm pretty sure I even made eye contact with Mick Jagger when they played their little set in the center of the Fleet, but I bet 1000 other people think the same thing. Anyway, I do think the show cold have been a bit longer and truth be told, I'm glad my ticket was a gift. If I pay $150 to see a band, they are gonna play for at least 2 and a half hours and they damn well oughta play most of my favorite songs. The show was very high-energy and 'rocknroll,' but most of my most favoritest Stones songs... aren't. ( There was no You Can't Always Get What You Want, Paint It Black, Wild Horses, Ruby Tuesday, Angie, Under My Thumb, We Love You... I could go on.... But that's what happens when you have a catalog as long and storied as The World's Greatest Rock N Roll Band. The stuff they did play was just fine though. Most of the "greatest hits" and a couple of songs out of nowhere too. I'd have to say the highlights were Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, No Expectations (a little known song from Beggar's Banquet) and Through and Through (a Keith song from Voodoo Lounge - who knew?). The lone encore of Jumpin Jack Flash was great as well.

If I sound a little... I dunno, bitchy, it's cuz I'm not in the best mood. You'd think going out 3 times in a week would lift my spirits? I'm just never satisfied or something. And the crowd tonight didn't help. It was mostly yuppies, but I suppose that's what happens when ticket prices are too high. Plus, there was a ton of pot and lots of 'let me see if i can sing louder than the band' as well. And Lordy, do I hate applause moochers.... If we were all like you and just sat there, we'd never get any encores. And of course the dude next to me had to ask me why I was "solo" with "no date." Gee, pal, thanks for reminding me. Just go back to asking me what i thought about Ryan Adams and what song was this and what album was this from.

Incidentally, Mr. Adams was a fine opening act. If his material weren't so uneven (and he weren't such a jerk in nearly every interview I've read with the guy), I'd consider hopping on his bandwagon. Surprisingly, he didn't perform "New York," the one song of his I'd actually heard on the radio.
