Matt has reached the point in his illness that he is no longer able to take phone calls, write emails, or post on his blog. At Matt's request, we (his family) are putting up this post to give an update. This week has been a huge decline for Matt. He has lost a great deal of physical and mental functioning, and has started to be very confused and agitated about things. Matt's goal was to make it to Christmas, so we moved Christmas up and celebrated today. Matt was able to be alert for parts of it. He "helped" with the traditional potato sausage, and was excited about many of the gifts he received. We are all glad that we were able to celebrate this last Christmas with Matt. From this point on, Matt will be increasingly sedated and asleep. His hospice nurse estimated that he may live up to a couple of weeks, as his young heart and lungs are still strong, but it could be sooner. Michaela will check the blog for those who wish to respond. We will post an update in the future.
