water.
it is one of the simplest compounds on earth. made from two very abundant elements it is what gives life to our world.
it is versatile, used in almost every aspect of life, seen frequently throughout our days. and without it, we cannot survive.
i have always had a very deep appreciation for water. its molecules do so many things that science still cannot understand. it adapts to what ever container it is in, is part of most all beverages consumed in our society, and it looks gorgeous en mass.
it brings life and lifts spirits. if u don't believe me, next time u have a headache or stomachache, instead of reaching for pain killers, try a tall glass of water.
with my great appreciation for water being what it is, i have always loved surrounding myself with it. to this day it is my favorite beverage, and is the basis for most of my favorite leisure activities.
but living in Michigan it is hard to not be jaded about how precious water really is. here in the Utah desert area, water is not plentiful. to come from a state where u cant drive 5 miles without running into a lake or river, to this semi-wasteland is a huge transition, and has increased my respect for water.
today was the first big rain storm since I've been to Utah. and it is one of the best rainstorms i have ever been in. the atmosphere is so thin, the sun shines brightly even through pouring rain, the smell from the rain on the mountains and the red rock almost burns your nostrils, even with all the windows in the house closed its pungent aroma still seeps in and blesses everything i own. the sound of the thunder and wind rolling through the valley we live in is so pronounced that u can point a finger at the echo traveling from rock wall to rock wall. and of course, the rain itself is so cool in this place where the heat is overbearing.
in Michigan we run inside to get out of the rain, here, where rain is a special thing, almost all the people in the valley came out and sat on their front porches for the storms duration, as did i.
this is a special place, a holy place, and I'm sorry that i can not even come close to describing the true beauty of this rain. but i have tried. and in that one really begins to realize that without the experience, you can never truly understand. but i hope u all get your moment in the rain.
"It is not raining to me, It's raining daffodils; In every dimpled drop I see Wild flowers on distant hills."
