So I had my Melbourne Zoo induction on Saturday, cause I'm doing voluntary work at the zoo with the Education programs for some great experience and a hopeful foot in the door. I'm getting so excited cause this is what I want to do! It's hopefully going to give me the kick in the backside to focus on my uni work so I can finish my Grad Dip Ed this year! I start just after Easter, three days a week every school holidays for the next 12 months (at least).
On top of that, I'm finding it hard to partake in all my random hobbies. I have way too many, and I just keep adding more to the mix! And somehow I still have to fit in work and uni studies too. Er yeah, I probably should be focusing a little more on my uni studies though...
My newest thing is iconing! It's super fun and I find some of the image clean-up and background free-handing therapeutic. I've got a load of fics in the works but I just haven't been able to focus on writing and it's easier to immerse myself in drawing, which is better when I do very little thinking I have a load of greeting cards I should be making too and whenever I have to do something else I want to make my cards, but then when I have the time I get too distracted... sigh... I bought a bunch of second hand vintage story books that I'm going to use for card-making, and even managed to find some that have some great illustrations that will be perfect for what I want to do. Now it's just a matter of getting off my ass and doing it!
I helped a friend out at the Pet fun day in Malvern the other weekend, and because she's an awesome friend she lets me sell my pet sympathy cards, animal themed cards and my polyclay sculptures. I was super stoked because I sold ALL of my lump cats and a few of my cards! I now have to go and make more haha. It's very encouraging when people buy your artwork. It at least acknowledges the work put in and validates it. I do get many compliments on my work, however they just walk on by without buying anything. These are the same people that will fork out $7 for a mass produced card at the newsagents, so it's kinda deflating on the ego to hear how wonderful your work is but not get any takers. I've been pretty lazy with my business over the past 6 or so months because I was investing so much time, energy and money into it and getting very little return. Now it's just a matter of finding time for it in amongst study and work.
Daylight Savings has just finished here. YAY! I love the extra hour sleep in, but it completely throws me for weeks as I adjust. It also throws the animals out as they're used to their feeding routine and aren't so happy about being kept waiting for their food! Falchin decided she'd share her sentiments about waiting for her breakfast by walking across my head several times yesterday... Yeah, thanks for that, Falchin
