An update on Matthew's status. They finally know what's wrong with him, though he's had so many tests and scans and whatnot and he's pretty sore after the lumbar puncture :( Anyway it turns out he has glandular fever. He's being kept in hospital until they can get his temperature down and until his liver count drops to a decent level. He's still pretty nauseous and achy, but at least his fever isn't as bad as it was.
I tell you what, doctors don't have much decorum when it comes to not freaking out their patients. They were running bloods for a whole bunch of different things to try and figure out what was wrong. The problem is Matthew has a tendency to overreact and he's already assumed the worse case scenario. So when they tell him they're running tests for various blood diseases of course he's freaking the fuck out. They're just trying to eliminate as many possibilities, but he's just like OMG I'VE GOT BLAH BLAH DISEASE D: D: D:
Anyway, he isn't going to die of some horrible disease, which is good, but it's not going to be a fun road ahead. A couple of our friends have had glandular before and it hangs around for months and months and never really goes away. He's probably going to get worse before he gets better :( Selfishly I'm a little concerned that I'm going to get it too. I so can't afford to be sick for months - As of next week I'm a casual and therefore no sick leave entitlements. So yeah, praying that by some pity from the Universe they let this one slide. I think I've had my fair share of shitty health issues and hospital stays...
Anyway, it's a relief to finally know what's wrong and hopefully he'll be back home soon.
