Totally agree with you and you are not the only one. Hence, if am at the cinema I spend it alone without the company of friends or family.
Like you I have my pet hates about other people's behaviour at the cinema.
My pet peeves are:
1. The rustling of sweets being opened. 2. The crunch of food being eaten. 3. People who come in just as the movie starts after being to the toilet. 4. Mobile phones going off left, right and centre. 5. Children starting to get fed up.
The last movie I watched "The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising" was one of the rarest moments a film buff can have. I had the whole place to myself. Not one person was with me bar the cinema projectionist.
Yeah, cinemas kind of piss me off but at least there you expect that. This was at a friends apartment with 6 of my friends and they still acted like asses.
It really annoys me too when I have friends round too.
Unless it's a film my friends and I know and love then you keep stum and not say a word.
When I sat round with 20 of my friends watching the last but one episode of Doctor Who ("The Stolen Earth") of Season 4 last week in a hotel (diabolical one in South Wales) we were very, very quiet and didn't make a sound because we were so engrossed by it.
Except at the end when I squealed when the words "To Be Continued" came up. Then I was told to shut up!

In my opinion, I would totally have to disagree with you on this point. I am a HUGE film buff and see many, many movies a year. Often I've seen almost every single nominee for the Oscars for instance, and that was before the nominees were announced.
To me, and to many of my film buff friends (including a few who make films), the ENTIRE reason for seeing the movie IN the theater and not waiting for the DVD is the theater experience. To see a movie WITH people. Half the enjoyment that first time is the crowd, their sighs, their tears, their cheers, their screams! To be a part of that amazing experience of being WITH the people
( ... )
I thought you were talking about theatres and I was going to say it was because DVDs have made it so that people think they are still in their living rooms when out in public but I see now that that is not the case. I see what movies I see in theatres by myself. I rarely go to movies with anyone else as it doesn't make much sense to me to make the event a social occasion since it's all in the dark and one's attention is directed at the screen.
You don't strike me as especially murderous, but, given the circumstances, such feelings are totally justified.
