Believe it or not, I was rarely at Hogwarts for Christmas. But yes, year or two will tend to make you a bit on the homesick side.

England. Though Hogwarts, as I understand it, is somewhere in Scotland. I rarely worry about that. After all, I could have to commute through to Romania, or wherever it is Durmstrang is located.

Only other magical beings. Muggles don't know about us.

Of course. They're always puttering round denying magic and the like, only to have their world just as affected by it as ours. And then they pretend we're nutters.
