Do you think that your life is your own, Malfoy-kun?

It could be. Or it could be a culmination of everything my father has aimed for all his life.

[Of course. Draco is sort of dodging the question, but that's no problem.] What would you wish for it to be?

Not what it is. [a plain and simple answer, if not mostly vague. He shrugs.] Do you have the perfect sort of life you imagined for yourself?

[Fair enough.] No, and that in itself would be difficult. I do admit to be lucky, to not have been imposed a set of beliefs to strictly follow.

[He looks up.] You don't have to answer, but if I may ask. What do you think is more important to you: your father's approval, or his ideals?

[he pauses briefly, trying to suss out the reason for the question.]

And what reason could you possibly have for knowing the answer to that? [by which he means, he has no idea.]

They may sound alike, but there's a difference. Can you try to answer, or would you really prefer not to? [He's not going to withhold it, but if he does it now, it might change Draco's answer. So he is keeping it, but not for too bad a reason.]

His approval. Which - I'll have you know - is only available by following his ideals.

[His look seem to soften, as if he did get something good out of this.]

Still, I think that this would mean that more than wishing to be seen and loved as a Malfoy, you would just like to be loved as your father's son, and be seen as your own person. [Stating the obvious? Maybe so, but it's still good to have him confirm that Draco placed himself above his name, at least a little, consciously or not.]

Whether or not I want to be loved as my father's son, I'm still a Malfoy. I have to stand by our ideals and keep up our reputation, whether I'm in England or not.

Not many knows who a Malfoy is supposed to be here, though. If it's not something that you would personally want to hold onto at all cost, then would it really matter this much, in Somarium?

Whoever said I didn't want to hold onto it? It's who I am.

At all cost. [He adds mildly.] Just because you are born as something, doesn't mean that you must like it. Especially so, when what we gain by birthright is not something that we can choose, as opposed to the decisions that we may make, when living out our own lives.

...well, I'm not pitching my name just so I can befriend whomever I want.

It is unfortunate that your name conflicts with the experiences you've gained from living your own life, but they don't have to be mutually exclusive of each other, either. Plus, this isn't your world, so wouldn't it be alright, to take advantage of what you are stuck with, anyway?
