Pensieve of Higher Education: The “Quality of Life”

Oct 05, 2007 22:55

At my job, October marks the beginning of the new fiscal year, the time when we look back on the last twelve months to see if we’ve used our resources wisely and when we map out goals for the next twelve months. In this transitional season between summer and winter, I can think of no better time to apply this action to real life ( Read more... )

I will definitely watch that video when I have the time.

Thank you for your beautiful words, V. In answer to your question: one year from right now, I want to be living in a different city, somewhere new and exciting and me. I love it here in California, but I want to experience snowfall in the winter and new foods and fascinating local history and new-ness. I want to be working as an editor in a publishing house. I want to be done with school forever.

Where do you want to be?

Please do - what a life this guy led. I seriously believe that the reason why this cancer is so aggressive is because only a disease marked by the spread of immortal cells could take out a man so full of life.

Those are fantastic projections. For my own part, I hope I'm in a loving relationship, creating/selling original non-Potter artwork, and done writing my first novel. ;) Thanks for asking!

I'll be the first in line to buy that novel when it's done! :)

I can say with 100% certainty that you're going to accomplish all that and more. :)

I can't tell you how much I love these pensieve posts, because you always leave me with something to chew on, and a new way of looking at things. I'm a pessimist by nature, and sometimes I find it extremely hard to see the beauty or the positive nature of things, especially if things in my own life aren't going well. But your posts are like a slap in the face (in a good way) telling me to look around, accept who I am, and take charge of my life. So thank you for that. *HUGS* I am so happy that you are in a good place now.

Where do I want to be in a year?

* writing a novel
* pursuing a MFA in creative writing
* 20 lbs. lighter
* visiting V in Washington, D.C. (I've really never been there!)

Thanks so much. :) It's sort of a challenge to put these posts up, only because I really do feel particularly enthusiastic and moved when I write them, but I just never know how anyone else will take what I wrote. I cannot say how glad I am that this post has had a positive effect for you.

And YES! You will be a writer and shall have a degree to prove it! lol I'm so excited to hear you say that!!!

And YES YES, you shall visit with me in DC! *dances* I can't wait!

It is such a tragedy how agressive pancreatic cancer tends to be. The survival rate is extremely low, and it doesn't surprise me that your husband's friend passed on so quickly after his diagnosis. I extend my heartfelt sympathy.

And yay :) Those sound like noble goals indeed. :)

This was a beautiful post, I'm always in awe of how you put your thoughts into words. I will watch the video when I have the time.

As to your question, a year from now I hope to move out of my mother's house and to have a successful job that I enjoy. I want to be well on my way to an Anthropology bachelor, have met new and beautiful people, be on my way to my weight goal, and just be happier then I am now.

I'd also like to visit D.C. again (and maybe meet you finally?).

Thanks, Sara :) I definitely, definitely encourage you to watch the video - it's 1:44 well spent, trust me.

Again, noble goals, and I have faith you'll achieve them! Be sure to look me up when you're in DC!! :D
